You might have to put the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim Museum on the backburner on a family break to New York City. If all of those family tickets look a little pricey, you can jump on the Staten Island Ferry for free and catch panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline.

Take a tip from New York families and travel to Coney Island in south-west Brooklyn. Luna Park bristles with retro roller coasters, hot dog stands and carnival games. Plus, Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk is just steps away. A baseball game at the Yankee Stadium is another surefire family winner.
