Switzerland holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Switzerland are all about the vast mountains, tranquil lakes and cities that bubble with heritage - all linked by a transport system that you could set your watch to.
A great track record
Switzerland is a land of railways. In the mountains, you can chug-chug up to the Schynige Platte peak to explore the Alpine Garden, or ride the Jungfrau train up to the highest station in Europe at 3,454m. And since all our transfers to the resorts are by Swiss Rail too, you'll be able to experience the trains from the moment you arrive wherever you’re staying. Plus, you can use your Swiss Half Fare Card to get up to 50% off tickets during your stay.
So much to see
Villages like Zermatt, Grindelwald and Wengen serve up that classic alpine experience. We're talking cuckoo-clock chalets, clinking cow bells and mountain backdrops. Also up among the summits is St Moritz, a chic spot that’s more high-society than Heidi, with its 5-star stays and fashionable boutiques. For a place where you can mix summit views with lakeside lounging, Interlaken is your one. Or, to see a side of Switzerland that swaps fondue for espressos and spritzes, check out the towns of Ascona and Locarno on the Swiss shore of Lake Maggiore.
Super Swiss cities
Switzerland’s two largest cities are Zurich at number one and Geneva at number two in terms of population. Zurich, in the north, does Medieval and modern in equal parts. It’s a hub for banking and finance, but also flaunts a picturesque old town, split down the middle by a river. Geneva city breaks, in the south of Switzerland, come up trumps with lake and mountain views. This city has a strong French influence running through its foodie scene, plus it’s home to the HQ of Europe’s United Nations.
