Lots of Dominican Republic weddings happen on private beaches belonging to the seafront hotels, which tend to be just behind the treeline. So, once you’ve promised to have and to hold, it’s just a short stroll back to your hotel – let the dining and fizz commence.

The simplicity extends beyond the ceremony, too. The honeymoon will feel like you’ve gone back to nature, exploring the island’s vast jungle, and coming across waterfalls and exotic blooms. Paths and tracks criss-cross the forest, and there are hundreds of species of bird to keep an eye out for.

If you fancy something a little more fast paced, historic Santo Domingo is packed with eateries, boutiques and nightclubs. It’s known as one of the first colonial towns in the Americas, and it’s ripe for exploring.
