Get wed in Zanzibar
Zanzibar’s a jungle-green island that sits just off the coast of Tanzania, surrounded by the Indian Ocean. So if you’re seeking out a far-flung wedding in a tropical setting, this place is somewhere you can say ‘I do’ to.
Beach weddings are a no brainer here – with hotel venues plotted on soft sands, your photos will have a dreamy backdrop of sapphire-blue waves and coconut palms. Or, opt for a garden ceremony for a splash more greenery.
You can sprinkle some local culture into your big day with the likes of traditional food at your wedding breakfast, or live local music at your reception. And once you’ve tied the knot, your honeymoon adventures can include ticking off the big five on a safari over in mainland Tanzania.

And if you’re sticking around for your honeymoon, you can do more than just sunbathe – there are plenty of watersports on offer, including snorkelling off the coast of the nearby island of Mnemba, which is home to over 600 species of fish.
Kiwengwa
Get wed in the quaint little village of Kiwengwa, and you’ll be saying your vows in a scenic spot on the north-east coast, where the veil-white beach is the headliner. Your post-wedding adventures here can include snorkelling with the likes of turtles and starfish, and trips to Cheetah Rock – a spot that’s home to rescued big cats, zebras and lemurs.
Nungwi
The sea can be your ‘something blue’ when you tie the knot in Nungwi, on Zanzibar’s most northerly point. Its beach gives the Maldives a run for its money. As for where you’ll be getting wed, there are three RIU hotels to pick from – each one with a seafront plot and a facilities list that’s as big as your day. When your ceremony’s done and dusted, you can fill your days with sunbathing stints, snorkelling sessions and ticking off sights like the century-old Ras Nungwi Lighthouse.
