Casanova, Cupid, St Valentine – it’s no coincidence Italy has given the world some of its greatest romantics. It only takes one look at the country to understand the power it has on the heart strings. It specialises in stop-and-stare scenery, with mountains spilling down towards blush-coloured towns and emerald lakes. Elsewhere, you’ve got cities laced with extravagant architecture that are perfect for exploring hand-in-hand while on honeymoon.
Settings for sore eyes
Become husband and wife in Italy and you can swap promises in places like Positano, on the Amalfi Coast, where villas painted in peach, pink and vanilla tumble down towards a bay. The town hall here has an outdoor terrace, which provides views of the Amalfi Coast that have to be seen to be believed. On other parts of the coast, you can marry in hushed cloisters.
A match made in Venice
In Venice, the Grand Canal runs through the heart of the city and is a focal point for weddings. This is the place where you can keep it intimate, with a personalised gondola wedding for two. Or, embrace Italian glamour in a lavish Gothic palace on the canal banks, complete with 18th-century artworks, elegant chandeliers and Baroque features.
Wed by the water
Opt for a wedding in the Italian Lakes and start your happily ever after in a beautiful, waterside castle. You can say your vows at Scaligeri Castle, in Malcesine, which is perched on a cliff that’s pulled right up to the shores of Lake Garda. Ceremonies take place on a terrace with wraparound views of the sparkling, sapphire waters – talk about a ‘something blue’ that’s hard to beat.
Where you can wed
In Italy, we offer weddings in the Neapolitan Riviera, Sicily and Lake Garda.
