Ayia Napa holidays put you in one of Cyprus’ top party destinations, famous for its high‑energy nightlife and nightclubs. And by day, the resort shifts into beach mode, with 14 Blue Flag beaches offering clear water and soft sand.
Ayia Napa’s a resort town on Cyprus’ south-east coast. It’s around a four‑and‑a‑half‑hour flight from the UK, making it an easy escape for sunseekers. The town has long held a party reputation, thanks to its nightclubs, karaoke bars, and late‑night events. But this place has a quiet side, too. Slow down by wandering the cobbled streets. Visit the Ayia Napa 16th‑century Medieval monastery. And dine in harbourside tavernas to experience that go-slow pace of Cypriot life.
There are 14 Blue Flag beaches on Ayia Napa’s eight‑kilometre-long coastline. And each one has its own character. Makronissos Beach is the go‑to for watersports, while family-friendly Sandy Beach is ideal for little ones thanks to its gently shelving shoreline. And although not technically a beach, the Ayia Napa harbour rocks offer a quiet, scenic spot away from the crowds. It’s also worth heading to Cape Greco, a nearby headland that sports sea caves, the National Forest Park, the natural stone arches of the Love Bridge and Kamara tou Koraka, and the clear waters of the Blue Lagoon.
Ayia Napa’s legendary party scene really comes into its own after dark, with drinks deals, buzzing clubs and foam parties on the strip. The Castle Club and Pirates Inn are always a winner for a night out. There are also plenty of trendy beach bars for cocktails, like Nissi Bay, Napa Rocks, Sirena Bay, and Cliff Bar. And there’s family-friendly live entertainment, too, like the Stardust Variety Show.
It’s a one-hour drive from Ayia Napa to Nicosia, Cyprus’ capital. Nicosia old town flaunts sandstone buildings, Venetian walls, museums, churches, and plenty of fabric and jewellery shops. Cosy cafés serve traditional Cypriot coffee, while Laiki Geitonia – a pedestrianised shopping area – is the go‑to spot for souvenir shopping. It’s also home to WaterWorld, an Ancient Greece-themed park.
