Why CHOOSE A DOURO RIVER CRUISE?

Wine’s the word along the Douro River, which stretches all the way across northern Portugal, through its famous wine country and into Spain. Unlike many of Europe’s other major rivers – like the Rhine – the Douro was never a strategic military location, so rather than castles and ramparts, sleepy villages and farms are the norm in these parts. In fact, the only thing that’s fortified here is the wine. Most of the nation’s famous port wine comes from the terraced vineyards that line the river, and you’ll sail past plenty of them on our river cruises. They start and stop in Portugal’s second-biggest city, Porto – where the Douro spills out into the Atlantic Ocean – and drop anchor in cosy villages and towns, like Entre-os-Rios, Barca d’Alva and pretty Pinhao.
