Wedding types
There are so many ways to get married abroad, from intimate ceremonies where it’s just the two of you to big events with all the bells and whistles. Take a look at our wedding types – we cover legal civil ceremonies, religious unions, symbolic occasions and vow renewals.
Hotel weddings
Some hotels offer weddings in huge gazebos, well-groomed gardens or on patches of public beaches.
Religious weddings
If either partner has been baptised or christened, you can have an Anglican church wedding in Cyprus.
Winter weddings
Winter weddings don’t have to be set against snowy scenery when you tie the knot in the sun-soaked Caribbean.
Weddings in different settings
You’re not limited to a hotel ceremony when you book with us. You can pick from a selection of other venues, too – from historical castles to luxury yachts.
Luxury weddings
Alongside our range of extra-swanky venues, we offer lots of all-out extras that you can add to dial up the luxury factor of your wedding.
Renewal of vows
Relive your big day all over again and renew your vows in sun-kissed locations around the globe. You can even have a renewal ceremony onboard one of our Marella Cruises sailings, too.
Renewal of vows with Marella Cruises
Cruising provides the perfect romantic backdrop to celebrate your vows, and we’ve got three packages for you to choose from – Silver, Gold or Platinum. Whichever one you pick, you can expect a service conducted by the captain or a senior officer, a Musical Afternoon Tea session, a sparkling wine toast, a cake, a bouquet of flowers and a buttonhole, a professional photo, and a bottle of Champagne. You’ll also get a discount to use in selected onboard shops.
The Gold package comes with extras like a handwritten card from the captain, chocolate-dipped strawberries, three pressed items per person and a meal in one of our speciality restaurants, Kora La or Surf & Turf.
Choose Platinum, and you’ll get everything the Gold package includes, plus a couples’ massage at the spa, and pictures taken by one of our onboard photographers. Plus, you’ll get a Champagne Musical Afternoon Tea session, a couples’ breakfast in bed, and an invite to an exclusive onboard event.

Popular places to get married
Frequently asked wedding questions
How many wedding destinations can I choose from?
From closer-to-home countries like Greece and Italy to laidback locations on tropical shores, you can choose to say ‘I do’ in over 10 countries.
How does the booking process work?
Once it's time to book your wedding, our expert team will book your holiday for you, and then add on your chosen wedding package. Your guests’ bookings can be made separately, but it's important that all of your party's bookings are linked. Your guests can call the Weddings team to do this, or ask their Travel Advisor to do this for them if they’re booked in a TUI Store.
How much do weddings abroad cost?
The cost of a wedding abroad varies, depending on the destination, venue, season, the number of guests you have, and any costs for your legal paperwork.
Where's the best place to get married abroad?
That depends – weddings in Europe are great for big wedding parties, as they make travelling a touch easier. If you’re after a winter wedding there’s no better option than the Caribbean.
How much should I expect to pay when it comes to my wedding package deposit?
It really depends on the destination and venue. A deposit can range from anywhere between £150 and 50% of the entire wedding package cost. Give our Weddings Team a call for all the details.
When should I book my wedding abroad?
We recommend booking your wedding at least six months in advance. This will give you enough time to plan and arrange those all-important legal bits, like giving notice of marriage in the UK. If you fancy tying the knot in Mexico or Cyprus, you can book a wedding here as late as three months before your big day.
How long does it take to get a date confirmed?
For the majority of our venues in Greece and Cyprus we’re able to confirm your date at the time of booking. For all other destinations, it can take between eight and 16 weeks to get your date confirmed. Your wedding coordinator will organise this for you, so you can sit back, relax, and wait to hear the exciting news about your date.
What documents do we need?
You’ll get a checklist in the pack you receive after you book. We’ll need you to send us photocopies of the completed documents at least 12 weeks before your wedding, and you’ll need to take the originals with you. But don’t worry – all the details will be crystal clear in your information pack.
When will I hear from you after I've booked?
Once everything’s booked, unless you contact us to ask any questions, the next person you’ll hear from is your in-resort wedding coordinator. They usually reach out to you a few months before your wedding to sort out all the details, including booking the likes of makeup artists, hair stylists, and meals in your hotel. So, if you’ve booked far in advance, don’t worry if you don’t hear anything for a while. You can rest assured that everything’s in hand.
Do we need to register our marriage in the UK?
The great thing about our legal ceremonies is that they’re recognised in the UK. However, some marriage certificates may need to be legalised, translated, or certified while you’re abroad. You can have a chat with your wedding coordinator about this once you’ve booked.
When can I book my hair and makeup?
Unlike with UK weddings, things like hair and makeup appointments are usually booked just a couple of months before the big day. When your wedding coordinator gets in touch with you – a few months before your wedding – you can get these details squared up. Just so you know, this only applies if you’d like to book your hair and makeup as part of your main wedding package. If you decide to book these yourself, you can get them sorted as soon as you like.
When will I get my marriage certificate?
Usually, you’ll get your marriage certificate while you’re away. In some destinations, it’ll be sent to you once you get home.
What will our luggage allowance be?
Couples who’ve booked one of our wedding packages will get 25kg checked-in luggage allowance each when flying with TUI Airways.*
*For the full terms and conditions, see our luggage allowance page.
Will our package include seating upgrade on our flights?
Seating upgrades aren’t automatically included, but you can choose to include this in your package. Ask our Weddings Team, and they’ll be able to add this for you.
Can we travel under our married names?
You must travel under the name on your passport. If you’re changing your name, you can have your passport amended when you’re back home.
Are discounts available for large group bookings?
Some venues offer discount for groups of more than 10 adults – ask our Weddings Team about this when you’re booking.
Do our guests have to stay in the same hotel as us?
It depends on the hotel. Some offer day passes for guests who aren’t staying at the hotel, while others will ask that a certain number of your wedding guests stay at the same place as you. For example, RIU hotels require at least 80% of guests to be staying at the same hotel.
Do I have to have guests if I get married abroad?
If a low-key affair is more your style, you can tie the knot without any guests in most destinations. You’ll need a couple of witnesses, though. Most hotels are able to arrange this for you, sometimes for a little extra. The exception to the rule is Costa Rica – if you want to wed here, you’ll need witnesses who are family or close friends.
Can I link my guests to my booking?
Yes – if you ask your guests to share their booking references with you, we can link their booking with yours.
