Souks, markets and beaches fill the gap from here to the city centre, where the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and Dubai Fountain all crop up. And as you venture into the northern reaches of Dubai, you’ll find museums, mosques and the 150-metre high Dubai Frame.

The city limits are also home to Dubai Creek – this waterway’s a great way to get about by water taxi, or to set off on a sightseeing cruise. Elsewhere, away from the hustle and bustle, you can bob along in a kayak through the gnarly mangroves, or sweep across the desert dunes in a 4x4 on a thrill-filled safari. Or, get a taste of the traditional by boarding a dhow boat and sailing along the coastline.
