View All DealsHolidays to Dubrovnik bring you one of Europe's most magnificent walled cities, with winding marble-paved streets packed with history. Sheltered Adriatic beaches are on your doorstep, too.
Sitting on the south coast of Croatia, Dubrovnik may be steeped in history, but it’s a city with a very modern side, too. Within its solid walls, Medieval houses, ancient palaces and historic churches rub shoulders with chic boutiques, stylish bars, modern hotels and bustling eateries. Plus, you've got the beaches and islands of Dubrovnik’s Adriatic Riviera right on your doorstep.
With Dubrovnik, you get an assortment of beaches. Quite a few of them are pebbly, like Banje Beach, just below the walls of the old town. This one’s got sheltered bathing, plenty of seafront bars and cafés, plus a complete line-up of watersports. And the resort is close to lots of little islands that come with lovely secluded sandy coves.
UNESCO has its name all over Dubrovnik’s old town. Much of its Renaissance architecture was wiped out in the 1667 earthquake, but there’s still some parts left – like St Saviour Church – among the newer Baroque style. Also worth seeing are the Franciscan Monastery, which houses one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe, and the grand Rector’s Palace.
Fifteen minutes by boat from the old town port takes you to pine-clad Lokrum Island, where legend has it Richard the Lionheart was once cast ashore. These days it’s a popular place for secluded swimming and sunbathing. There are also walking paths across the island, plus a botanical garden and the ruins of an old Benedictine monastery.
