Luxury on the Adriatic
Great location to the old city and as hopping off point for region. Easy 20 min walk to old town, with fantastic amenities. Lovely view and balcony from the room. Spacious and comfortable. Live music in bar in the evenings was a nice addition. Breakfast was very nice in quality, although service was sometimes chaotic. Many tours are available for booking through guest services.More

Dubrovnik half term
Rixos Libertas you can't check in until 14.00 hrs earliest and so we had a long wait for a room 16.00 hrs before it was ready despite several trips to reception as we arrived at about 10.30 a.m. and were told to walk round Dubrovnik or use the Hotel facilities. Beer 50 Kuna so over £6.00 a half litre. Dubrovnik is about three quarters of a mile walk and relatively quiet at this time of year so if you want to see the walls 150 Kuna then a day pass allows you to do so and visit museums etc, for 170 Kuna, Most shut on a Monday but Ethnography museum shut Tuesday. Hotel spa very good free for guests and an indoor pool and table tennis. Car hire from Avantcar in the hotel was decent value and smooth and went to Montenegro and Kotor for a walk round the walls. Sockets in room were loose but plenty for charging camera, phone, tablet and so on. Tea and coffee making but tea only mint and green tea so shop out front and a hundred yards to the left for milk and water etc. Mini bar we didn't use but put in Milk. Plenty of storage but gown far to small for me as size large, slippers were ok; though I couldn't wear the toweling gown to the indoor pool or spa as many guests did. Breakfast from 06.30 a.m. was reasonable but hot side was a bit repetetive and the sausages pork or turkey were awful although a cooked to order omelette was available. Tea and coffee served at the table and help yourself to Pago juices. Food at dinner was ok but not a massive choice and not great, a litre bottle of water was 30 Kuna so £3.75 at dinner. Room was decent enough with over bath shower and great view out to sea with a veranda and a large comfortable bed. Difficult to swim in the sea as the hotel had removed the steps so access via rocks at the side though water temperature was about 19-20 degrees C. Finally after the delay checking in Thomson forgot to pick us up and we had a dash costing 250.00 Kuna on top to the airport for a 11.45 a.m. flight despite waiting in reception since 07.30 a.m. after consuming breakfast and with road closures due to our departure coinciding with 25 years since the end of the last war in 1992.More
Good home base while visiting Dubrovnik
At a discounted rate with free on site/self parking (easier during the low season), this is a good place to stay. Bus to Old Town is a block away by foot (15 KN one way good for 1 hr), so leave your car here. However, buy a day pass for 190 KN, includes entrance to the wall (usually 150KN, public transpo, entrance to some museums and discounts at restos - you come out ahead, wall is a must). If it's a nice day you can walk to Old Town (25 mins easy stroll - downhill to get there, uphill back). Day passes might only be available at the Pile Gate (ask front desk). Breakfast is good enough to tie you till early dinner - Dubrovnik is not a cheap place to eat. Staff are friendly, willing to help and knowledgeable. Huge rooms (upgraded to Superior with balcony). Free internet. My fav is the complimentary "Handy Phone". Mobile device in your room that you can take with you out of the hotel - has free local phone calls, your own personal number - deleted after you check out (you can have people all over the world use to get hold of you, if you want to make reservations at restos, map guide while you're exploring town) Cleanliness and facilities needs updating. Worn out bathroom fixtures, hair in my bathtub, outdoor pool and gym had the same used water bottle sitting there for two days. Is this worth its five stars, yes for the space, amenities and location (but won't pay $200/night for it). Just needs a little sprucing up. BTW, tons of tourist even during low season - so don't except an exclusive get away. More
