Best hotels in Marrakech

Heading to Morocco’s Red City? Start your Marrakech holiday right with a stay at one of these properties.
From tiny, traditional riads to sprawling luxury resorts, Marrakech certainly knows a thing or two about hospitality. Pick a hotel here and you can look forward to first-rate dining, chic pool scenes and access to all the city’s best bits – from Jemaa el-Fnaa square to Koutoubia mosque at the Atlas Mountains beyond.

When it comes to where to stay, some hotels put you within walking distance of the big attractions, while others base you in further-out spots like leafy Palmeraie, on the outskirts. If it’s the latter, look for a hotel that offers either a free shuttle bus or one you can pay a little extra for, to get you into the heart of things easily.

We’ve picked some of the best hotels in Marrakech to get your Morocco trip past the planning stage…

TUI BLUE Medina Gardens

If you want a hotel that puts you right in the heart of Marrakech, the adults-only TUI BLUE Medina Gardens is a top contender. From here it’s a five-minute walk to the Medina, so you’ve got shops, souks and cafés practically on the doorstep. And there’s more of the same around Jemaa el-Fna square and Koutoubia mosque, which are both a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

The property itself is a head-turner inside and out, and teams sleek, modern rooms with authentic Moroccan features including a 200-year-old tower. Two smart pools are wrapped in established gardens full of palms, lemon trees and olive groves, and there’s a clutch of restaurants and bars including a cocktail spot on the rooftop.

TUI BLUE Riu Tikida Garden

Another adults-only hotel, TUI BLUE Riu Tikida Garden is a little further out of the city, in the Palmeraie area of Marrakech. A palm-studded oasis away from the hustle of the medina, it’s the hub of upscale hotels and luxury villas. That’s not to say it’s cut off, though – the hotel runs a bus into the city centre, which takes about 10 minutes, and you can walk to Jemaa el-Fna square in about five minutes.

In terms of facilities, this hotel lays on a real spread – from four outdoor pools to a health and wellbeing programme that ticks off everything from HIIT classes to yoga and Pilates. It’s worth splashing out on a tension-relieving massage at the Tikida Spa, which also has a hammam and a list of beauty treatments. And the standout feature when it comes to dining is the Moroccan à la carte restaurant – you get one special meal here as part of the hotel’s All Inclusive package.

AQI Aqua Mirage

Planning a family trip? The AQI Aqua Mirage has its very own waterpark, complete with a wave machine, slides and a splash zone for little ones. There’s a hotel-run kids’ club, too, and evening entertainment that includes stage shows, live music and karaoke. Factor in two pools, a football pitch and tennis courts and there’s a whole lot here for all ages.

The hotel is All Inclusive, with buffet spreads served up in the main restaurant and off-the-menu options at two à la carte places – an Italian and a Moroccan. You get a meal at each of these included if you’re staying a week or more, and you can tuck into more local flavours if you head into the heart of Marrakech. You can pay to take the shuttle straight from the hotel, and the journey takes about 25 minutes.

RIU Tikida Palmeraie

Serene retreats don’t get much prettier than RIU Tikida Palmeraie, a village-style hotel set in 13 acres of gardens. As the name suggests, this one’s in the chic Palmeraie area of Marrakech, a 30-minute drive from the medina – and the hotel runs a free shuttle to get you there.

While it may have clinched a quiet spot, there’s plenty going on at the hotel, and days revolve around the big swimming pool. It comes with a wraparound stone terrace and a bar in the centre of the water, and there’s a separate, shallower kids’ pool. On the subject of little ones, RiuLand Kids' Club runs daily for children aged 4 to 12, and evenings are sorted thanks to a stellar line-up of shows for all ages.

Be Live Collection Marrakech

Another gem in the Palmeraie district, Be Live Collection Marrakech is adults-only – and it comes with all the essentials for a suitably grown-up stay. That includes a big, photo-ready pool fringed by palms and another pool exclusively for guests staying in the swim-up rooms. There’s one more pool in the spa, and you can pay to work your way through a long list of treatments and massages.

On the food front, main meals are served up in the buffet restaurant, plus there’s a Moroccan à la carte to make the most of as an All Inclusive guest. Light bites are served at the chillout longue during the day, and there’s an all-important bus into Marrakech for when you fancy eating out. It’s free, and you’ll be in the heart of the city’s foodie scene within about 20 minutes.
