Best time to visit Morocco

Dreaming of a trip to Morocco but wondering when’s the best time to go? We’ve got you covered.
From chilled-out beach days to traditional city stays, holidays to Morocco tick off both. And if you’re wondering when’s the best time to visit – we’ve got you. Escape to this North African gem during July and August for the toastiest temperatures and make a break for the beautiful beaches along its Atlantic coast. Fancy a hike through the Atlas Mountains instead? A trip during the cooler months from April to May or September to October is your best choice – and when we say cooler, we’re talking temps around the mid-20s. For more details – including when to go on a desert experience – read our full guide below.

When are the hottest months?

Morocco’s hottest months are from June to September, with temperatures hitting the late 30s in August. If you’re after a family getaway during the school holidays but looking for temps more manageable for the kids, head for Morocco’s coastal spots like Agadir or Taghazout. Temps here hover between the late 20s and the low 30s – thank you, cooling sea breezes.

When is the rainy season?

Morocco's rainy season runs from November to March – the northern and coastal regions have more frequent bursts of showers, whereas further inland spots like Marrakech see less rainfall. But don't let that dampen your holiday plans – with spots like Agadir welcoming around 300 days of sun a year and temperatures in the early 20s over the winter months, your sunshine fix is still on the cards.

Best time to visit Marrakech

Marrakech – the home of traditional riads and vibrant souks – is best visited during summer’s shoulder seasons (AKA late spring or early autumn). Daily temps range from 20˚ C to 25˚ C – perfect for touring the city’s top landmarks, like Bahia Palace and the gardens of Jardin Majorelle.

Planning a summer break to Marrakech instead? Slot your sightseeing in the early morning or following an afternoon siesta. Plus, sunrise is an ideal time to hop on a hot air balloon ride for insta-worthy views of Marrakech’s terracotta roofs with the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains.

Best time for outdoor adventures

Want to swap the sandy beaches for sandier dunes? Plan your trip outside of the peak summer months when humidity is low, and sandstorms are less frequent. Picture it: touring the Agafay Desert by camel. The sun’s setting behind the rolling dunes. You’re living out your Lawrence of Arabia fantasy. Dreamy. And cool-er.

It’s not all about deserts, though. The Atlas Mountains are another must-see on a Moroccan adventure, and you can visit them throughout most of the year. If longer hikes are on your checklist, we’d recommend going outside of the summer months for cooler temps. Or if you plan a visit over December and January, expect snowy mountaintops – remember to pack extra layers!
