New York’s most stylish hotels

From boutique beauties to design-led stays, here are New York's most stylish hotels.
Fashion capital New York is oozing with stylish hotels. From the outside you can expect sprawling rooftop gardens and cocktail-worthy views. From the inside, lust over floor-to-ceiling windows, luxe bathrooms and Art-Deco bars that resemble real-life Pinterest boards. Trying to decide on which area to base yourself in? Pitch up in the always-on-trend Upper Eastside to be close to Fifth Avenue; bag a room in Midtown Manhattan to overlook Times Square, or escape the hustle and bustle with a stay in Central Park. To make things easier, we’ve created a round-up of the chicest stays the Big Apple has to offer…

STRUT THE RUNWAY AT THE SURREY

Fashion lovers will fall head over high heels for The Surrey. On arrival you’ll see a six-foot portrait of Kate Moss in the elevator, then head to the monochromatic bar to check out the Chanel-inspired quilted wall. Just don’t forget to have a cocktail in hand too, of course. A further peek inside, and you’ll soon see why Condé Nast voted it as the number one hotel in NYC (hint: it’s not just down to the sleek interiors). Grab a bite to eat in Café Boulud and dabble with Michelin-star dining, or head up to the private rooftop garden on the 17th floor, where you’ll find lavender bushes, topiary trees, and the perfect spot to catch the sun setting over Central Park.

FOLLOW IN VOGUE'S FOOTSTEPS AT THE PARAMOUNT

It’s no wonder The Paramount, one of the first hotels to be built in Times Square, has featured in Vogue. Nicknamed as ‘the place to be in NYC’, this cover star has been touted as one of chicest hotels in the city, and hosts a number of high-profile events. Pose for selfies under dramatic lighting (it’s Instagram-gold, trust us), celeb-spot in the storied nightclub and make an entrance in the no-expenses-spared lobby. Wake up after a good night’s sleep under Egyptian cotton sheets, and you’ll find yourself at the perfect starting point for a day in the Big Apple – Central Park, Rockefeller Centre and Fifth Avenue are just a stone’s throw away. Two words – shopper’s paradise.

SIP COCKTAILS ON ARLO NOMAD'S TRENDY ROOFTOP BAR

The rooftop terrace at the Arlo Nomad is the place to see, and be seen, in New York. You can sip on an aptly-named Brooklyn Heights cocktail (tequila, lime and fresh pressed watermelon juice) and get a close-up view of the Empire State Building and Manhattan from the ultra-stylish terrace, ‘The Heights’. The hotel’s pretty special on the inside, too. Take in the amazing cityscape from the comfort of your bed thanks to wrap-around floor to ceiling windows, and lather up with Blind Barber toiletries in the rain shower.

FEEL LIKE A MOVIE STAR AT LOTTE NEW YORK PALACE

Elegance comes as second nature in The Lotte New York Palace, a renovated mansion in Midtown Manhattan. Slip into your fanciest clothes and twirl around the marble corridor, or change into your trackies and work up a sweat in the gym that overlooks the city. Think you recognise this hotel from the picture? You’re probably right. It’s been used as a backdrop in Gossip Girl and Limitless, so make sure you get that all important Instagram shot of the outside #hotelgoals. The hotel’s fine dining is also one to brag about. Nibble on rainbow-macaroons in the ornate Pomme Palais café, or grab coffee-to-go in true American style.

BE PAMPERED AT THE RITZ CARLTON

Escape into the sanctuary of The Ritz Carlton and soak up the royal treatment in a hotel that offers complete privacy, despite opening up directly onto Central Park. You’ll find it pretty hard to leave once you’re tucked inside its huge glass doors, though. Slink into a satin robe and let the trained masseurs knead away any aches in the hotel’s La Prairie Spa – all that shopping’s hard work, right? And, if you do want to step outside, the hotel’s attentive team will arrange for a picnic in Central Park, or a personal training session – if you’re feeling rejuvenated after all that rest.
