Top 5 beaches in Morocco

Morocco's coastline is calling – here are five beaches you need to know about.
From Agadir’s family-friendly sands to Legzira’s red rock arches, Morocco’s coastline is packed with standout spots. It stretches along the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and boasts everything from quiet bays with calm waters to surfer havens. Step off the sand and you’ll discover coastal towns that blend Moroccan tradition with laidback seaside vibes – think fresh seafood, colourful markets and sunsets that paint the sky orange and pink. Whether you're after a lazy day on the sand or want to try your hand at watersports, our pick of the top five beaches in Morocco has you covered.

Once you’ve found your fave, take a look at our Morocco holiday deals.

1. Agadir Beach

Agadir’s main beach stretches for nine kilometres along the Atlantic coast, giving you plenty of space to claim your spot on the sand. The promenade behind the beach is lined with cafés and restaurants, where you can grab lunch with a sea view, and the calm waters make it ideal for families with little ones. If you fancy getting active, you can hire a surfboard or try your hand at jet skiing. Wondering when’s best to go? The beach gets plenty of sun year-round – even in winter, temps hover around the low twenties – so it's a solid choice whenever you need a break from the grey skies back home.

2. Taghazout Beach

Taghazout started life as a small fishing village and has grown into Morocco's surf capital. The beach here picks up consistent swells from the Atlantic, making it perfect for surfers of all levels. Even if you've never stood on a board before, there are plenty of surf schools offering lessons for beginners. Plus, the village has kept its chilled-out vibe despite its popularity, so you'll find yoga studios, surf shacks and cafés serving smoothie bowls alongside traditional Moroccan mint tea.

3. Legzira Beach

Around 150 kilometres south of Agadir, Legzira Beach – famed for its dramatic red rock arches – is a day trip away and well worth the journey. Thanks to its rust-coloured cliffs contrasting the blue Atlantic waters, this sandy swathe is one of Morocco's most Instagrammable spots. Our tip for getting the best snap? Time your visit for low tide so you can stroll right up to the arches and poke around the rock pools sprinkled along the shore. Just keep an eye on those tide charts – when the water rolls in, the beach gets surprisingly snug.

4. Essaouira Beach

Essaouira Beach – a favourite for windsurfers and kiteboarders – hums with energy thanks to the steady Atlantic breeze that blows in most days. The beach is backed by a charming old town and can be visited on a day trip from Marrakech or Agadir. The town itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with whitewashed buildings and blue shutters that give it a laidback feel. After time on the beach, wander through the medina's narrow streets, where local artists sell paintings and handmade crafts.

5. Sidi Kaouki Beach

About 20 kilometres south of Essaouira, Sidi Kaouki beach – a wide, sandy number with a more remote feel – is another great choice for a day trip from Marrakech. It's also a solid pick for surfing and kitesurfing, with fewer crowds than its better-known neighbours. Instead of big resorts, the beach is backed by sand dunes, which adds to its untouched vibe. A handful of beach clubs and guesthouses line the shore, where you can grab a bite or rent equipment for the day and take things at your own pace.
