Self-Care Tips For Your Holiday

Here are our top self-care tips for your holiday.
What is self-care? Well, the word experts over at the Oxford English Dictionary say that self-care is the practice of protecting your own wellbeing and happiness – maybe putting aside some time to meditate, or just taking long baths. Using self-care to take care of your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health. But where do holidays fit in? They’re all about taking a break from everyday life – whether you’re having a difficult time, or you’re just up for a rest – and treating yourself. We’ve pulled together our top tips on how you can make the most of your escape, and get stuck into some serious self-care…

GET BACK TO NATURE

Getting close to nature has been proven to reduce stress and make you feel good. In fact, mental health charity Mind reckon that ecotherapy is an important method of self-care. So why not pick a green-cloaked destination for your escape? If that sounds good, Costa Rica fits the bill. Kitted out with vibrant coffee plantations and rainforests that are ripe for exploration, this jade-tinted country’s got nature covered. Go on a guided tour of the rainforest and you can get up-close-and-personal with sloths and frogs.

PICK A HOTEL WITH A STANDOUT SPA

There’s nothing like an indulgent spa treatment to make you feel good. We’ve got loads of hotels with spas on our books. One of our faves is the TUI SENSATORI Atlantica Caldera Palace in Crete, Greece. This beachfront joint’s spa features a massive spa menu which includes the likes of chocolate and honey massages. Plus, it’s partnered with top UK skincare brand, ELEMIS, so you can be sure that the therapists are using top-quality products.

SWITCH OFF FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Many people find it tricky to resist the temptation to fill their Instagram feeds while they’re on holiday. Hey, we get it. But social media can get in the way of distancing yourself from everyday life, which is a really important part of self-care. During the holiday, give posting a break, then once you’re back you can use social media in a more positive way. Scroll through your pictures and remember all the relaxing you got up to while you were away.

GET ACTIVE

Lots of experts have linked physical activity to mental wellbeing. And when you’ve got a bit more time to fill on holiday, it can be the perfect opportunity to try out some new types of exercise. Stay at a ROBINSON Club, and you’re all set to get active. The ROBINSON Khao Lak, for example, puts on tonnes of different fitness classes. You can get involved with anything from high-intensity indoor cycling, to chilled-out pilates classes. Or, opt for a stay at the TUI SENSATORI Resort Rivera Cancun, which offers open-air yoga classes hosted on the hotel’s soft-sand beach.
