With holidays to Faliraki you get full-on nightlife and adrenaline-fuelled watersports – all of which nicely balances the Blue Flag beach and family-friendly waterpark.
Multiple choice
Faliraki’s reputation comes before it. Set on the northeast coast of Rhodes, one of Greece’s most popular islands, this resort is known for its party-all-night atmosphere courtesy of its throbbing bars and clubs. Yet it’s pulled off a bit of a coup because it also comes with a spotlessly clean beach and a popular waterpark. Not only that, it’s close to the historic sights of Rhodes Town.
Watersports haven
Faliraki Beach is obviously doing something right – it's got a Blue Flag tick to its name, and the five-kilometre stretch is teeming with sunbeds and stripey umbrellas. There’s plenty of things to do, too, from watersports like pedalos, jet-skiing and parasailing to more extreme activities like bungee jumping. For a quieter option, the sand-and-shingle Kathara Bay is just past the harbour.
Vibrant nightlife
Neon is the lighting of choice in Faliraki, which unashamedly enjoys its buzzing nightlife. It all centres on the central Bar Street and Club Street, where holidaymakers come out to play around 10pm and keep going ’til the early hours of the morning. For a calmer evening, there are a few quieter bars and restaurants on the outskirts of town.
Daytrips to Rhodes Town
There’s a regular water taxi to Rhodes Town, otherwise it’s a 20-minute drive. Behind the walls of the UNESCO-rated old town is one of the oldest inhabited Medieval towns in Europe, filled with around 200 nameless streets. Must-sees are the 14th-century Palace of the Grand Masters, a huge fortress rebuilt as a holiday bolt-hole for Mussolini, and the old inns on the cobbled Street of the Knights.
