What to wear in Ibiza

Get the inside scoop on what to wear in Ibiza.
We can think of a few reasons why Ibiza is famous. Think orange-tinted sunsets that rival the Caribbean’s, some of the most beautiful strips of sand in Europe, and a beautifully preserved, UNESCO-certified old town. Plus, this much-loved island is basically a haven for clubbers, in part thanks to its legendary opening parties. In places like San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa you can expect a never-ending list of boat bashes, unrivalled DJ sets and pool parties that’ll leave you spoiled for choice. And because Ibiza is the perfect place to get your groove on, you’ll definitely need to consider what to wear. We’re talking uber-chic swimwear, day-to-night playsuits, bohemian-style kaftans, and your biggest and best sunglasses, of course. And that’s just for starters…

Ibiza doesn’t just line up partying, though. There are plenty of sights to take in during the day. Take Ibiza Town, for example, which features trademark cobbled streets that sidle up to whitewashed houses. You’ve also got Es Cana, home to hippy markets that have called the chilled-out resort home since the sixties. Ibiza’s fab for hikers, too. You can trek along Els Amunts, renowned for its deep valleys, wild flowers and pine-covered hills. And if you can’t resist a cocktail along the way, why not stop at a local village, like Sant Mateu a’Aubarca, for a tipple or two? Whatever you choose to do while you’re on the island, our what-to-wear guide guarantees that you’ll look the part...

PATTERNED PLAYSUIT

You’ll bag a wardrobe win no matter what the occasion with a light-weight patterned playsuit. Whether you’re making tracks for the beach or sipping cocktails before hitting the clubs, this staple garment will go with everything. Pair it with huge sunglasses, metallic sandals, and a pineapple-shaped bag, and you’ll be hot to trot in no time.

KEEP-COOL KAFTAN

It’s no secret that kaftan’s are the perfect cover-up for days spent in the sun. And not only are they really stylish, they’re incredibly lightweight, too. So, whether you’re strolling towards one of the gorgeous beaches or exploring interesting places like Ibiza Town, this item of clothing is sure to keep you protected from the sun – temperatures can reach up to 27 degrees in June onwards. Plus, once the sun has set, it can get a little chilly – especially if you’re floating past the coastline on a sunset cruise – so it’s a good idea to keep something warm in your bag just in case you need another layer.

STYLISH SWIMWEAR

This year’s swimwear trend is all about scallop-edged bikinis, cut-out swimsuits, and one-shouldered one pieces. This means you’ll have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to relaxing on the sand and taking dips in the bath-warm water at Playa d’en Bossa Beach. And the best part? You can wear the exact same cossie to Bora Bora after dark. Just add a pom pom-covered straw bag and a stunning pair of gladiator sandals into the mix and you’ll likely turn more than just a few heads. Body glitter is not optional, FYI.

BEACH BAG

It might seem like an obvious one, but a beach bag is an absolute must if you’re visiting Ibiza. Make sure you choose a bag that’s versatile, though. Some days you may find you’ll head straight for the bar from the sands, so it’s essential you’ve got a statement piece that’ll look great for both occasions. We suggest a metallic backpack or a vintage straw bag – they’re uber chic and really trendy right now. Oh, and be sure to pack a Tangle Teezer™ and sea-salt spray in your bag to ensure your hair is hippy-ready for amazing clubs like Pacha. You’re welcome.

SHOW-STOPPING SANDALS

If there’s one wardrobe rule to obey in Ibiza, it’s to make sure you pack comfy shoes (AKA not high heels). Most holidaymakers opt for a pair of stylish sandals, which is great news if you’re a fan of flat shoes. Plus, remember you’ll be dancing all through the night, so it's important you’ve got a pair of shoes that you can rely on. Sandals weren’t just made for clubbing, though. You can wear these pretty much anywhere – whether you’re making tracks for the pool, the beach, or flower-lined Ibiza Town.

SUPERSIZED SUNGLASSES

A large pair of sunglasses is the best way to protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays (not to mention those tell-tale dark circles, too) when you’re chilling by the pool. Plus, when it comes to sunglasses, the general rule of thumb is the larger they are, the better. Supersized sunglasses instantly add a chic-feel to any outfit, too, so they’re ideal for Ibizan getaways. Plus, they’ll come in handy when you’re exploring many of the White Isle’s attractions. Take Pirate Towers, for example. These jaw-dropping turrets were once used to watch out for pirates who’d stop at the island to steal salt and kidnap the locals.

BOHO BANDANA

Holidays to Ibiza are an excellent excuse to get quirky with your accessories. And that’s where the bandana comes in handy. This eye-catching scarf can be fastened around your head, neck, wrist, and even your handbag strap. We think the best way to wear it is around your head, though. A patterned bandana gives your hair an instant makeover and adds a touch of effortless glamour after days spent lounging at the beach. Plus, it’s the perfect way to prevent your locks from frizzing when you’re sunset cruising along Ibiza’s gorgeous coastline, so it’s a win-win situation.
Now you know what to wear in Ibiza, it’s time to book.
