Best hotels in Paris

Get your Paris city break off to the perfect start with a stay at one of these chic stop-offs.
Paris packs an awful lot into its city borders. Divided into 20 arrondissements – AKA districts – the capital of France is eminently walkable, extraordinarily beautiful and every bit as chic as the guide books claim.

If you’re visiting Paris on a city break, you’re likely to have a list of must-sees as long as your arm – so finding the perfect hotel to base yourself at is key. From the glitzy Champs-Élysées area to up-and-coming Saint-Ambroise, take a look at our pick of the best hotels in Paris and see which style suits you most.

Hôtel Château Frontenac

Claiming a coveted spot in the upmarket Champs-Élysées area, Hôtel Château Frontenac is a suitably swish affair. From the chandeliered lobby to the Art Deco-inspired restaurant and elegant bar, this place is as glitzy as its smart locale.

Speaking of location, the hotel puts several of Paris’ big-name sights within walking distance. It’s a 15-minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe and the same to the Champs-Élysées Gardens in the other direction. The Eiffel Tower is walkable, too – cross Pont de l’Alma or walk a little further up to Pont d’lena and it’s practically on top of you. Exploring further afield? George V metro is a four-minute walk away, if you can resist the lure of Ladurée and Hermès en route.

De Berri, A Luxury Collection Hotel

If being quite close the Champs-Élysées isn’t enough, try De Berri, A Luxury Collection Hotel – it’s on a side street just off the famous shopping boulevard. The vast Galeries Lafayette department store is a few blocks away, plus plenty more shopping stops on your doorstep.

Uniquely, the hotel is set in a private park – so you can step off one of the city’s busiest streets and into what feels like a lush, green oasis. Style-wise it’s a mix of grand marble pillars and ornate cornicing, with modern features like sleek four-poster beds in some of the rooms. There’s a hotel gym, Mediterranean fine-dining restaurant and a bar, too, so all the essentials are covered when you’re not out exploring.

Splendid Etoile

Another top pick in the Champs-Élysées area of Paris, Splendid Etoile is within striking distance of the world-famous Arc de Triomphe. And we really do mean within striking distance – some of the rooms have incredible views of the massive monument, as does the hotel’s elegant French restaurant.

While we’re talking food, there’s a breakfast room where buffet spreads are served up all the way until midday – perfect if you fancy a lie-in, or an early sightseeing trip followed by brunch back at the hotel. And there are two metro stations within a five-minute walk, so you can get to places like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre in about 15 minutes.

Hôtel Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel

If the Eiffel Tower is top of your to-do list, Hôtel Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel – as the name suggests – is the place to be. It’s right next to the city’s most famous structure, sitting pretty on the left bank of the Seine. And there’s a metro station a matter of minutes away when you’ve had your fill of Tower views.

Speaking of which, you can spot the city’s tallest structure from everywhere from the hotel’s gym to some of the bedrooms. Style-wise things are fresh and modern, and the restaurant’s leafy garden is a nice place to unwind when you fancy a break from city sightseeing.

Les Deux Girafes

Want to stay on the other side of the city entirely? Hotel Les Deux Girafes puts you in the Saint-Ambroise area of Paris, so you’ve got districts like trendy Marais and up-and-coming Belleville within easy reach. The bars and bistros of Saint-Martin Canal are even closer – you can walk there in 10 minutes – and there’s a tram stop closer still, so you can explore further afield if you want to.

The property itself is a boutique hotel, with contemporary interiors worthy of a magazine spread. You can pay for beauty treatments and massages at the sleek spa and let off steam in the gym, plus there’s a restaurant and chic bar to boot.
