TUI BLUE Flamingo Beach, Playa Blanca

Family-friendly holidays are what this hotel in lively Playa Blanca does best – from the four big pools to the children’s splash zone and action-packed kids’ clubs. There’s even an activity area just for teens – The Hangout – and a BabyClub for little ones, so every age is well looked after. And parents can relax with a visit to the spa, or by joining in with things like sports tournaments and family workout sessions.

The restaurants are a similar story, with a balance of kid-friendly and grown-up features. That means a children’s buffet in the main restaurant, for example, alongside quieter adults-only zones. And when you want to eat out, Playa Flamingo Beach and its restaurant-packed promenade is right on the doorstep – or you can take a wander for a drink down on the harbour.

TUI SUNEO El Trebol, Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise has plenty going for it – including a massive Aquapark, five sandy beaches and an 18-hole golf course at the side of an old volcano. And the good news is, TUI SUNEO El Trebol puts you within striking distance of all the best bits – it’s walkable from the beach, shops and restaurants and a quick cab ride from everything else.

The two big lagoon-style pools steal the show at the hotel, along with another pair of pools for children and a little splash park for tots. There’s a poolside bar serving essential drinks and snacks, and a restaurant that lays on big international buffet spreads and different themed dinners every evening. Fancy a nightcap? The piano show bar is the place to be for All Inclusive drinks, or the hotel’s also got an open-to-the-public pub. You’ve not got far to go if you’re heading ‘out’, then.

RIU Paraiso Lanzarote, Playa de los Pocillos

Playa de los Pocillos is a laidback spot on Lanzarote’s east coast, and its go-slow vibe makes it a popular pick with families. That’s not to say it’s short on things to do, though – the town has a sandy beach that slopes gently into paddle-friendly waters, plenty of places to eat along the prom, and one of the island's biggest attractions – the Rancho Texas Park – about a 10-minute drive away.

If that sounds a lot like holiday heaven, RIU Paraiso Lanzarote is the place to stay. It’s a matter of metres from the beach and packs in four palm-fringed pools. There are two more just for children, next to a hotel-run kids’ club for ages 4-12. And in the evenings the hotel puts on things like magic shows, jukebox nights and a disco that runs six nights a week – if you’ve got the stamina.

La Isla Y El Mar, Puerto del Carmen

About 15 minutes’ walk down the road from Playa de los Pocillos you’ll find its livelier neighbour, Puerto del Carmen. The two are connected by a promenade, and things get buzzier the further along you walk. La Isla Y El Mar has clinched a great spot about 10 minutes away from the hub of the action – on a hill overlooking the Atlantic. That means you’ve got the buzz of bars and clubs – and the beach – close by when you need them, but you get total peace and quiet when you just want to relax.

As for where to kick back, pick from two pools, a chill-out zone with comfy loungers and a poolside bar serving drinks, snacks and sea views. Contemporary rooms dressed in muted hues add to the sense of calm here – as does the fact this hotel is only open to guests aged 16 and above.

TUI SUNEO Ficus, Costa Teguise

Another great shout if you’re searching for a child-free break, the adults-only TUI SUNEO Ficus is a 10-minute walk from Costa Teguise’s sandy shore. It’s made up of sleek apartments that centre around a curvy pool, and there’s a second pool that’s exclusive to guests who upgrade to a premium apartment.

This being a TUI SUNEO hotel, entertainment options like theme nights, live music and professional shows are on the line-up in the evenings, and the show bar is a great place to sip a cocktail or two. When you want to mix things up a bit, wander down to Costa Teguise and take your pick from the bars and restaurants lined up along the prom.
