Best hotels in Barcelona

Wondering where to stay in Barcelona? We’ve done the hard work for you with this hotel shortlist.
Barcelona is often mistaken for the capital of Spain for a reason – it’s a main-character-energy kind of place, and easily one of Europe’s most sought-after city break destinations. If you’re planning a trip, choosing the right hotel will come down to what’s top of your travel wish-list. And the good news is, the city’s main sights are all easy to reach if you pick a property with a central location.

We’ve cherry-picked five of the best hotels in Barcelona that make exploring this cosmopolitan city a breeze – whether that means hopping on the metro to see the Sagrada Familia or walking around the corner to explore the shops along Las Ramblas. Pick your perfect base, aim to stay for three nights in the city as a minimum – there’s so much to see that you’ll easily fill longer – and get ready to explore the capital of Catalonia.

When you’re ready, check out all our Barcelona holidays.

The One Barcelona

The rooftop pool is the star of the show at this sleek city pad. Framed by smart wooden decking dotted with loungers and daybeds, it’s the place to soak up 360-degree views of Barcelona. The same applies to the ninth-floor rooftop bar and restaurant, where you can tuck into tapas while enjoying the scenery.

Bedrooms are chic and contemporary and there’s a hotel gym plus a stylish spa where you can pay for a variety of treatments – from facials to massages. When you want to head out, the designer stores of Passeig de Gracia are a couple of minutes’ walk away, as is Casa Mila – one of Gaudi’s greats. There’s a metro stop around the corner, too, so you can get to places like La Sagrada Familia and Las Ramblas in the space of about 10 minutes.

Melia Barcelona Sarria

Visiting Camp Nou while you’re in Barcelona? Melia Barcelona Sarria puts you in easy reach – it’s a five-minute drive from the famous stadium, and some of the hotel’s suites come with tickets for VIP box seats. Football aside, it’s also a 10-minute walk from Passeig de Gràcia – lined with landmark sights, designer shops and upmarket restaurants.

Facilities-wise, this plush property promises all the luxury essentials – including elegant rooms, a 24-hour gym and a cutting-edge spa. There’s also a smart restaurant serving signature dishes – don’t miss the pizzas with a culinary twist.

Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona

This grand property on Passeig de Gracia shares a postcode with high-end stores, fancy restaurants and two of Gaudi’s best works – Casa Batllo and Casa Mila – which means there’s plenty to see on the doorstep. It’s also only a 10-minute walk from Plaza de Catalunya and one end of Las Ramblas, so it ticks all the boxes when it comes to location.

In the hotel itself, things are pretty refined all round – from the elegant rooms to the traditionally-styled restaurant. The standout feature is a rooftop terrace that doubles as a pool spot by day, and a bar by night – complete with a DJ and views that frame the Sagrada Familia.

El Palace

Want the red-carpet treatment while you’re in town? Check in to El Palace and you’ll be staying at the oldest luxury hotel in Barcelona. Everything about this hotel lives up to its palatial name – from the grand Neoclassical façade to the ornate interiors characterised by huge, swagged curtains, sky-high ceilings and ornate gilded panelling.

The rooftop garden is worth writing home about, with a pool, restaurant and bar that all make the most of the widescreen views. Look down from here and you can see the old town a five-minute walk away, and Las Ramblas, which is about ten – plus biggies like the Sagrada Familia.

Claris and Spa

The spa at this hotel is award-winning, so if it’s a pamper break you’re after, this place will fit the bill. You can pay for facials, massages and detoxes in this Mayan-inspired space, which also offers full-body wraps and couples’ massages.

Away from the spa, the rooftop pool is a head-turner thanks to a backdrop of Barcelona’s skyline. And there’s a Mediterranean restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef at the helm, plus a Chinese restaurant serving up cocktails and Dim Sum. Heading out to eat? The city’s main square is a 10-minute walk away and lined with cafés and restaurants, and close-by Passeig de Gracia is the place for after-dinner drinks.
