Callao Salvaje holidays

Callao Salvaje

Holidays to Callao Salvaje have been designed with relaxing in mind – there’s little to distract from the black sandy beach.

Best of both worlds

Callao Salvaje on the south coast of Tenerife has got a lot going for it. It’s pretty quiet, with most people’s attention caught by a beach that flaunts the iconic black sand of the Canary Islands. Adventure-seekers might think it all sounds a bit too peaceful – but think again. The resort’s postcode puts you a 20-minute drive from hives like Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas. Plus, you've got local bars, shops and restaurants at your fingertips. So you’re not far from the action at all.

Road trip to Teide

It’s worth hiring a car when you stay in Callao Salvaje. The south-coast postcode puts you close to some of Tenerife’s biggest tourist hotspots, including Teide National Park. A car ride will whizz you over to this dramatic moon-like landscape in 45 minutes. There’s some excellent hiking here. Or, simply take the cable car to the summit of Mount Teide, a dormant volcano with eyebrow-raising island views from the top.

A black sandy beach

The beach in Callao Salvaje is called Playa de Ajabo. Here, you can bag a sunbed and an umbrella and flake out in Tenerife’s year-round warm climate. It’s worth noting that while there’s lots of room to sunbathe, there aren’t any facilities here. If you want a seaside scene with restaurants and bars, drive 15 minutes south to Costa Adeje, where there are two Blue Flag beaches to choose from.

The action next door

When you’re not sunbathing, Callao Salvaje’s got handful of restaurants and gift shops to check out – but there’s little else to divert your attention. If you fancy something a bit more fast-paced, jump on a bus or hire a car and make your way to one of Callao’s nosier neighbours. Playa de las Americas is heaving with bars and nightclubs, which Costa Adeje’s got an A-star beach scene and more shops than you can shake a stick at.
