Manacor holidays put you within arm’s reach of some of Majorca’s best beaches, while still right in the middle of town.
Close to the coast
Manacor is a lesser-known holiday destination, set just inland from Majorca’s coastline. Although its perhaps not as popular as party hotspot Magaluf or beachy Palma Nova, Manacor still has a lot going for it. To start with, it’s one of Majorca’s biggest towns after Palma. Plus, it’s only about a 20-minute drive from the east coast, which stocks the likes of fishing village Porto Cristo and family-focused Sa Coma.
Big sandy stretches or quiet natural coves
Even though you’re a short drive away from the coast, you can still reach a whole host of beaches within a 30-minute drive. You’ve got the big and popular Cala Millor beach. Its name translates to the ‘the better bay’ – it earnt its title thanks to its long stretch of sand, clean waters and restaurant-lined promenades. For a slightly smaller beach, there’s Porto Cristo, which has shallow waters and virtually no waves. Or, for a more remote feel, there’s Cala Varques, an unspoilt natural cove.
Classical concerts in a cave
One of Majorca’s top tourist spots is just a 15-minute drive from the centre of Manacor. The Drach Caves go on for about 1,200 metres and dip 25 metres below ground level. The caves are so big, they hide away one of the largest underground lakes in the world. Illuminated row boats often appear on the lake, serenading you with classical music while you explore. And if you want to get out on the water, you can jump in a boat yourself for a ride around the underwater lake.
Home to a tennis star
If you’re a tennis fan, then you’ve likely heard the name Rafael Nadal. He was born in Manacor, and to mark this they’ve created a whole museum dedicated to him. This family-friendly experience is great for kids. The interactive museum shows off his trophies and has high-tech simulators for tennis, F1 and mountain biking.
