How to make more of your Euro money on holiday

Off to Europe soon? You’ll want to stock up on the right currency before you go! The euro is used by 24 European countries, including popular destinations like Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Croatia and Greece.

The exchange rate between the pound and the euro can change, but as a rough guide, the average was around €1.01 to every £1 in early 2023.

Where to get euros

Because euros are so widely used in Europe, it’s one of the easiest currencies to get hold of. You can pick up your travel money from TUI at your nearest TUI Store, as well as online. You’ll also find the multi-currency TUI Travel Money card very handy while you’re abroad.

A guide to using euros abroad

It’s generally a good idea to budget for at least €70 per day to cover dining out, activities and accommodation, though daily budgets vary depending on which country you’re visiting.

If you find you need more Euros while you’re away, you’ll be able to use cashpoints to withdraw more. The TUI Travel Money Card is a safe and secure way to carry up to 12 currencies while you’re travelling, including Euros.

In Europe, tipping etiquette varies from country to country, but overall it’s less common than in other parts of the world, like the US. Do check your bill before tipping, as service is often included – if it’s not, and you’re happy with the service, 10% is perfectly acceptable.
