BEST FOR LOCALLY INSPIRED TREATMENTS

When it comes to hotels, it’s not just your food that can be sourced from the local area. Your spa treatments can come with an authentic twist, too. The five-star Grand Hotel Pomorie, in Bulgaria, took inspiration from the surrounding area when it put together its spa menu. Treatment ingredients include the mineral-rich mud from nearby Lake Pomorie – which you can spy from the hotel. Out the front, meanwhile, you’ve got a sweeping beach and the Black Sea. Back in the spa, yoghurt wraps and honey peels are on the agenda, too. Or, over in Portugal, the sea-view TUI BLUE Falesia serves up locally focused spa treatments, using local honey, lavender and organic wine, alongside its sauna and steam room.

BEST FOR PARTY-STYLE PAMPERING

If you want to pair pampering with partying, the Tropicana Las Vegas is a top choice. The spa menu reads more like a cocktail list here, with options like a Mojito Manicure and a Pedi-Colada. The best bit? You can sip on the namesake cocktail, while your toes and hands get a polish. Plus, if you’re in the market for a pick me up after a night on the Vegas strip, you can get scrubbed down with ingredients like blood orange, white pepper, lime and ginger – hangover…what hangover? Another spa that caters to party lovers is the Rock Spa® at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya, in Mexico. Not only is it the biggest spa in the Caribbean with 75 treatment rooms, but the massages are set to music – so the partying doesn’t have to stop when you leave the swimming pool.

BEST FOR UNUSUAL TREATMENTS

Italy’s famous for its food, so why not incorporate it into a relaxing treatment? At the adults-only TUI BLUE Nastro Azzurro, near Sorrento, you can treat yourself to olive oil and chocolate rituals. There’s nothing more romantic than getting scrubbed with cocoa powder and butter, smothered in dark chocolate and then massaged with hot chocolate oil. But chocolate doesn’t just taste good – it’s also a powerful antioxidant, which helps de-stress and tone the skin. After your treatment for two, you can head up to the rooftop cocktail bar, which looks out over the Bay of Naples.

BEST FOR KIDS

Adults aren’t the only ones who can get in on the pampering action. At the TUI SENSATORI Riviera Cancun, children aged 5 to 17 can have their very own spa day at the Perfectly Pink suite. The hotel’s designed this place with first-time spa-goers in mind – think spa treatments with a fun twist, like kid-friendly chocolate body wraps and bubble facials.

BEST FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT

The treatment rooms come in the form of treehouses at St Lucia’s Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort. The massages follow the same theme at the aptly named Rainforest Spa – signature treatments include bamboo and coconut massages. And, instead of a steam room or sauna, you’ve got a steam dome – or temascal – a traditional stone steam room, warmed by volcanic springs. You can really get back to nature with the spa’s Sulphur Seduction trip, as well, which involves a tour of the island’s active volcano, then time at the sulphur springs and mud baths. Plus, you can wash it all off under a natural waterfall. There are wellness classes to join in with, too – think yoga and Pilates.

Head east to Thailand, meanwhile, and The Waters Khao Lak by Katathani lives up to its name. Here, the massages take place in the pool, floating on a Vichy massage bed. Or, there’s the option of a foam massage, where your whole body is covered in moisturising herbal soap – or bubbles, to you and I. After, you can finish things off in a bubble-filled hot tub for an extra circulation boost. Traditional Thai massages also make it onto the menu, along with the likes of coffee and coconut scrubs and cooling aloe vera wraps. And this is on top of seven pools, with built-in loungers for extra relaxation.

BEST FOR ALL-OUT LUXURY

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend – and Mexico’s Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf & Spa Resort has taken this literally. At the Los Cabos hotel’s Armonia Spa, you can opt for massages and facials using diamond dust, which is meant to rejuvenate your skin, making you look and feel younger. These luxurious treatments are just one of the reasons why this place is constantly voted as one of the top hotels in Mexico by the likes of Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast. If diamonds aren’t your thing, you can go for gold at the TUI BLUE Oceanis Beach & Spa Resort, in Greece, where they offer a body treatment using gold-infused oil.

In the Canaries, the TUI SENSATORI Resort Tenerife steals the show with its Spa by Clarins. There’s a whole lot on offer here, including a state-of-the-art floatarium filled with saltwater for loosening up strained muscles, and a hydrotherapy circuit. At the latter, you can work your way around, a sauna, a steam room and chromotherapy showers. You can even book in for open-air treatments at one of the five outdoor cabanas. When you’re not in the spa, you’ll want to make the most of the huge outdoor pool, which measures in at a mammoth 260 metres.
