Maldives

Let’s be honest, the Maldives have become a bit of a go-to for honeymooners in recent years. But with more than a thousand islands to its name, it’s easy to do things the way you both want to. Before you panic, there’s absolutely zero need to research every single island – we know you’ve already got enough on your plate. Instead, just focus on the atolls – it’s the name given to a group of islands that surrounds a lagoon. So, let’s start with the North and South Ari Atolls – pick these for a chance to dive with hammerhead sharks, and for easy access to the capital, Malé. It’s only about a half-an-hour seaplane ride away, but its skyscrapers and busy streets are miles from life on the islands. Head north if you both really want to get away from things – the Raa Atoll is home to a handful of hotels, and it’s the jumping-off point for boat trips to uninhabited islands, so you’re sorted for peaceful beach days for two. The atolls to the south, meanwhile – like the Dhaalu Atoll and Huvadhu Atoll – should be on your shortlist if you’re both after hotels with an extra touch of luxury.

Florida

The Sunshine State is famous for its theme parks, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend your whole honeymoon ticking off big thrills (You can do if you want to of course – it sounds pretty ideal to us). Our Multi-Destination holidays are a great way to cover both sides of Florida. You could spend the first half of your honeymoon taking a look behind the scenes of some of the biggest movies at Universal Orlando Resort, then spend the second resting up on one of Florida’s best beaches. We’re not biased, but when it comes to choosing somewhere for the second part of your holiday, Melbourne Beach’s 33-mile stretch of sand has got honeymoon written all over it. Fancy a city break instead? No problem. You can head to some of America’s biggest cities – as well as Miami, you can also choose from the likes of Boston, New York and Chicago.

Italy

Honeymoons don’t have to mean a long flight – there are plenty of close-to-home spots to pick from, too. Italy’s ideal if you ask us. Around a two-hour flight to cute coves, traditional restaurants and ancient sites? We’ll take it. The Amalfi Coast should be on your list if you fancy adding a touch of glamour to your honeymoon – this stretch of coastline creates a dreamy backdrop to your post-wedding snaps. Oh, and don’t miss a daytrip to Capri – a glass of prosecco tastes great after the steep chairlift ride to the top of the island. Sorrento is another top pick for honeymoons to Italy. To find it on a map, find the heel of Italy’s boot and run your finger along the country’s south-west coast. The old town’s cobblestone streets are lined with traditional trattorias and cafés, while the coastline features bathing platforms for easy access to the sea.

Bali

Bali’s become a bit of a buzzword in travel in recent years, but that’s not the only thing it’s got going for it – it’s one of the hottest honeymoon destinations, too. It’s fair to say it gets the most attention when it comes to the Indonesian archipelago – pretty impressive when you consider there’s more than 17,000 islands to talk about. Honeymoons here can cover both sides of the coin, so it’s a great pick if you can’t decide whether you want a go-slow or active honeymoon. One day you can spend the day chatting about your favourite memories from your big day on a beach, and the next, you could be climbing Mount Batur in time to watch the sunrise. Not sure on where to stay? Take a look at Ubud – this place blends traditional touches like ancient temples and royal palaces with up-tempo bars and a huge choice of restaurants, so you get the best of both worlds.

Mexico

The Caribbean’s long been a favourite for honeymooners, and Mexico’s one of the region’s top picks. Cancun’s a good go-to if you’ve still got some partying left in you after your wedding reception – pick a hotel close to the Hotel Zone and you’ll have restaurants, bars and nightclubs right on your doorstep. Playa del Carmen slows down the pace a little – the bars along Fifth Avenue give you plenty of options if you fancy a night out, but they come with a more boutique feel than the superclubs you’ll find in Cancun. If you’re more bothered about beaches than bars, take a peek at Playa Mujeres – it‘s set on a peaceful peninsula with just luxury hotels and a stretch of sand for company. P.S. It’s only a 20-minute cab ride from Cancun, so it’s no problem if you change your mind on wanting a big night out.

The Dominican Republic

Sticking with the theme of the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is next in our list. Bavaro should be on your radar if you plan to spend your honeymoon lazing around on a beach – it’s all thanks to its namesake beach, which lines up more than 10 kilometres of sand. Hot on its heels in the beach stakes, there’s La Romana – the swathes here come with perfectly-lined palms and super-soft sand. Oh, and before we forget – if you’ve requested experiences as wedding gifts, make sure the boat ride to Soana Island is on your list. A beach day on this island is the stuff honeymoon dreams are made of. Comfy loungers, cocktails out of fresh coconuts and clear waters? Tick, tick, tick.

Mauritius

Mauritius is no stranger to the honeymoon game, but this place definitely hasn’t lost its sparkle. For starters, you’ve got the island’s 330-kilometre coastline – it’s edged by white sand, so it’s easy to find a secret spot of sand just for the two of you. This place has more under its belt than pretty beaches, though. Although we wouldn’t ever want to tell you what to do on your honeymoon, you have to pull yourself away from your seaside lounger to explore the island’s interior. The Black River Gorges National Park should be top of your list if you both enjoy a hike – it covers more than 50 kilometres, with backdrops that are more than worthy of being on the cover pic of your honeymoon post on Insta. While we’re on the subject of hikes, the three-hour journey to the top of Tamarind Falls is another one to plot into your honeymoon planner. Trips here tend to include a couple of swim stops for you to cool down en route.

Thailand

We’re going east now as Thailand’s next up on the list. If you’re ready to escape the crowds after your big day, Khao Lak is the answer. It’s set on the coast, around a two-hour drive north of Phuket, and is surrounded by jungle. The waters are perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling, with everything from tropical fish to eels and turtles to look out for. There’s so much to see in Thailand, though, so if you’d prefer not to stick to one spot, take a look at our Multi Destination holidays. They’re a great way to split your stay in two – you could spend the first half of your honeymoon resting up and exploring the waters in Khao Lak, then your second half island hopping from Phuket. James Bond Island, here you come…

Greece

Last, but by no means least, we’ve got Greece. Honeymoons here are another great option if you only fancy a short flight, with most of its islands only around a three or four-hour flight from the UK. Now for the tough part – which island to pick? Santorini sits highly on the list for us – there are plenty of adults-only hotels to choose from, and its sunsets are something else. For natural scenery, Corfu takes the crown – it’s known as the Emerald Isle thanks to the olive groves and rolling green hills that bring its interior to life. Crete’s the largest Greek island, so it’s a great pick if you’re planning to take cute road trips. Just make sure you plan for an afternoon in Chania. It’s one of the island’s most romantic spots, thanks to a cobblestone old town and a pretty Venetian harbour that’ll have you questioning whether you’ve ended up in Italy.
