Six fun things to do on a cruise ship

From climbing walls to escape rooms, here’s what’s in store on a Marella cruise.
There’s so much more to cruising than amazing eateries, packed itineraries and premier service. Catch a movie under the stars at an open-air cinema, challenge yourself in an escape room, or see how high you can scale a climbing wall. Games like minigolf and shuffleboard are on the agenda, too, and you can even play in a virtual reality world. Sound good? Here are six activities you didn’t know you could do on a cruise ship…

Outdoor cinema

Open-air cinemas are the new trend. After all, there’s no better way to spend an evening than catching a film while the sun sets. On Marella Explorer you’ll find our very own outdoor number, Movies by Moonlight. It shows a range of box office hits and Hollywood classics to keep every film fan happy. And, you can grab blankets, popcorn and hot chocolate from the nearby bar to make it extra cosy, too.

PlayWall

If you're onboard Marella Discovery 2, you can put your speed, precision and hand-eye-coordination skills to the test on our interactive PlayWall. You'll be able to choose from more than 28 games, including ones just for kids. Get ready to show off your penalty shootout skills, hunt for buried treasure and build robots at speed.

Minigolf

Some would argue that a holiday isn’t a holiday unless you’ve challenged your family and friends to a game of minigolf. Luckily, you can practise your game on a cruise ship, too. You’ll find a nine-hole minigolf course on the deck of Marella Discovery. Just don’t let the amazing sea views put you off your swing…

Shuffleboard

The Arts House is an arts-themed bar that you’ll only find on Marella Voyager, and it’s on deck six. By day you can round up a team and challenge your opponents to a game of shuffleboard, but be warned – it’s pretty addictive. Still playing at sunset? Then you’ll be treated to some live music, too.

Climbing wall

If you’ve got a head for heights, brave Marella Discovery and Marella Discovery 2’s very own rock-climbing wall. Perfect for families with older kids who love to get active. Make it to the top and you’ll get a birds-eye-view of the ship and the ocean too.

Breakout challenge

Real-life escape rooms are the ideal activity to bond families and new friends, as you all work together to solve a series of puzzles. Marella Discovery’s version, Siren's Spell, will see you pitching in as a team to complete a series of games and challenges to break the Siren's Spell before the notorious pirate catches you. You better be quick, or else you'll be walking the plank.
