LGBTQ+ family holidays, uncovered.

Go behind the scenes of an LGBTQ+ family holiday with three pairs of influencers and their families.
Planning an LGBTQ+ escape? Look no further. Last summer, we took three families on holiday to uncover more about LGBTQ+ family holidays. You’ll probably recognise them from your socials – they’re all big names on the LGBTQ+ family scene on Instagram and TikTok. Once they landed back, we got in touch to get their top tips for travelling as an LGBTQ+ family. Here’s what they had to say…

Gran Canaria - Doug and Sanjay

Doug and Sanjay are dads to three children – a girl and a pair of identical twin boys. They stayed at the TUI BLUE Orquídea in Bahia Feliz on the island’s south coast. We caught up with them to find out about it…

“Gran Canaria is fantastic as it has a bit of everything depending on what you want to do. We had both been before when we were much younger and experienced more of the party side of the island and now returning as a family, it was perfect.”

“The TUI BLUE Orquidea was just so well kitted out for families. There were shows, kids’ discos, foam parties, activities throughout the day, playgrounds, splash pads, kids’ pools, entertainers – the list was endless! If you were to ask the kids, they would say their favourite thing was the soft serve ice-cream machine. The staff at the hotel were great and we never felt out of place amongst the other guests. There were other LGBTQ+ families staying at the hotel too, which was lovely to see!”

Gran Canaria – Stuart and Francis

Stuart and Francis have two children, Rio and Rebel. They also chose Gran Canaria for their family holiday, but decided to discover a different side of the island with a trip to the Servatur Puerto Azul in Puerto Rico. Here’s the inside scoop on their stay…

“Servatur Puerto Azul was perfect for us. The views alone are chef’s kiss – you’re up on a cliff with sweeping views over the ocean and Amadores Beach. The food was great – proper buffet-style, with fresh salads, grilled meats, pasta stations, and loads of choices for kids (and desserts they couldn’t get enough of). There’s even a separate family pool and splash area, which meant the kids were happily entertained for hours.”

“Gran Canaria has long been known for its LGBTQ+ inclusivity, and it really shows – from the friendly staff at the hotel to the rainbow flags proudly flying in town. Whether you’re two mums, two dads, or co-parenting with friends, you’ll feel completely at home.”

Mykonos – Kate and Sharon

Kate and Sharon have been sharing their lives as an LGBTQ+ couple for years. This summer, along with their son, they took a trip to Mykonos. They stayed at the Myconian Kyma – a five-star hilltop boutique hotel with panoramic views of the island. Here’s how it went…

Greece will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we're delighted to have ticked Mykonos off our Greek Island list. Not only is it extremely beautiful, with some of the most delicious food and drink we've ever had, but as an LGBTQ+ family, we felt incredibly safe and welcome. Despite being a religious country, Mykonos has been an LGBTQ+ hotspot since the 1970s, thanks to a royal visit from Jackie-O. Since then, its gay scene and nightlife have grown, and more LGBTQ+ people are choosing Mykonos as their holiday destination.”

“As a family, we always enjoy seeking out the local history when we travel and Mykonos was no exception. During our trip, we visited the ancient site of Delos – an archaeology site that dates to 3BC! We caught a ferry from Mykonos Old Port and spent a good few hours walking around old ruins (and spotting lizards!).”

“Our top tip? The ferry to Delos takes around 40 minutes and it’s the last opportunity for some shade before you arrive, so be sure to bring plenty of water and sun cream. The island is very exposed and, even when we went in May, it can get very hot.”

“If you're currently planning your next holiday as an LGBTQ+ family, then you should add Mykonos in Greece to your list. Out of the 6,000 other Greek islands and islets, Mykonos is bursting with history and boasts some of the prettiest streets in the Cyclades Islands.”

“For LGBTQ+ couples (or singles), it also has a vibrant LGBTQ+ scene with several gay bars and clubs dotted around the island, as well as events throughout the year.
