Five of the best beachfront pools

Go from pool to beach pronto at these seafront spots.
Beach or pool? It’s a tough choice. But what if you could have both right next to each other, and switch between the two as you please? We’ve picked out some of our resorts across the globe that boast huge infinity pools overlooking spectacular coastlines. From iconic hotels in Mexico to quiet retreats in nearby Kos, here’s where you can be footsteps from the sand and the poolside sun lounger at the same time. Don’t forget to keep your phone handy for those endless #poolwithaview snaps. It’s not a holiday unless you’ve filled up your Instagram feed…

1. MICHELANGELO RESORT AND SPA, KOS

When we say Kos, you might think neon nights out and endless bar crawls, but the Greek island has its quiet side too. Stay at the Michelangelo Resort and Spa in chilled-out Agios Fokas, and you’ll enjoy a secluded, away-from-it-all break. This stylish hotel is tucked away in the hills, and the star of the resort is the huge 160-metre-long pool that’s the same width as the entire resort. This infinity number looks like it’s melting into the horizon, and offers up views of the beach, mountains and even Turkey’s coastline in the distance. If you can peel yourself away from the pool scene, there’s also a sumptuous spa, manicured gardens to explore, and a few bars to grab a cool-down drink from.

2. BLUE DIAMOND LUXURY BOUTIQUE, MEXICO

The swish Blue Diamond Luxury Boutique hotel on Mexico’s Caribbean Coast is in our Platinum collection, and it’s an adults-only retreat, for those who want a romantic break. It lines up four pools – two of which are infinity numbers, and the main one overlooks the beach and the calm Caribbean Sea. When you fancy spending a bit of time on the picture-perfect beach, watersports like kayaking, windsurfing and scuba diving are on offer. The hotel is just 10 minutes from the resort of Playa Del Carmen too, which has its own ribbon of pure white sand and lines up beach bars, trendy boutiques and restaurants to keep you busy.

3. ANGELA, SPAIN

If you want to combine a luxury hotel stay with plenty of activity options and a lively atmosphere – pick Hotel Angela on the Costa del Sol. It’s right next to buzzing Fuengirola where there are tonnes of restaurants, shops and nightlife options, plus a bustling beach. The hotel itself boasts its own L-shaped infinity pool overlooking the sea, lined with loungers and a beach bar. And, there’s a heated indoor pool inside, plus activities to keep you busy, like aqua aerobics, table tennis and even paella making classes. The evening entertainment puts on magicians, live music, comedy shows and flamenco shows, too.

4. HARD ROCK HOTEL CANCUN, MEXICO

The iconic Hard Rock Hotel Cancun boasts a tiered, lagoon-like infinity pool that looks out over the sea – ideal for those envy-inducing Instagram snaps. It has two handy swim-up bars perched on either end, plus a vibrant atmosphere with foam parties and music most nights. And, in case that wasn’t enough, there are a couple more pools perched on the rooftop overlooking the sea, plus, of course, the beach within footsteps of the resort. Entertainment is one of the Hard Rock Hotel’s main USPs, so once you’ve spent the day in the water, you can party all night at one of the onsite bars and head to the infamous Coco Bongo which is just 10 minutes from the hotel.

5. DUSIT THANI KRABI BEACH RESORT, THAILAND

Distinctive limestone cliffs and a 150-kilometre coastline make Krabi in Thailand the top place for a tropical escape. And, to make the most of the epic sandy stretch, you can stay at the Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort which pairs its pool with a postcard-perfect beach. There are two infinity numbers here – the main one looks out over a peaceful, hammock-filled garden, and the second one has its own waterfall fountain where you can recreate those Herbal Essences adverts. When you fancy swapping the pool for the beach, there’s a chilled-out beach bar nearby that serves up light bites and cocktails.
