Around 1,200 miles off the east coast of Africa, you’ll find a little island known as Mauritius. Home to a string of white-sand beaches and surrounded by the Indian Ocean, this place is like paradise on earth. It’s all about the water here – one of the largest unbroken barrier reefs in the world surrounds the island, so the snorkelling and scuba diving here is top notch. Keep your eyes peeled while you’re in the water, and you might even spot a dolphin or two. Beyond the beaches there’s plenty of natural history to explore – we’re talking towering mountains and dense forests that are home to some of the world’s rarest animals. Take Porte Lafayette’s national park for example, head here and you can spot geckos and tropical birds. So, if you’re already picturing yourself on one of the island’s beaches, read on to find out about RIU hotels in Mauritius.

After a secluded stay? The RIU Palace Mauritius is the perfect pick – it's set right on the beach front on Mauritius' southwest tip. Rest and relaxation are the name of the game at this adults-only pad, so it’s perfect for peaceful escapes.
This place will be fresh-out-the-packet for summer 2024 and boasts a seafront setting on a private beach that’s just for guests. There are plenty of sunloungers dotted along the 500-metre sandy stretch for you to take a sunny snooze on. If you’re a bit of a thrillseeker, then there’s a tonne of watersports to try your hand at – the line-up includes parasailing, windsurfing and more. Plus, when you stay here you’ll get one free scuba diving lesson in one of the outdoor pools. And if you want to keep active back on dry land, then you’ve got a daytime activity programme that runs seven days a week and includes things like yoga and fitness classes.
On the food front, you’ve got a choice of four restaurants to get your fill at. The main buffet restaurant is open for all three meals – at breakfast you can order your meal just how you like it from live cooking stations. Plus, things are kept fresh at dinnertime with themed nights a couple of times a week. There’s also a Japanese à la carte restaurant as well as a fusion à la carte restaurant that are open for dinner, plus you’ve got Pepe’s food which serves up chargrilled plates. You’ve also got a steakhouse and an Indian restaurant at the nearby RIU Turquoise which is only a couple of minutes’ walk away. Fancy a sweet treat? Call into the patisserie and ice-cream parlour for something moreish to nibble on. There’s a selection of bars for you to whet your whistle at, some of which you don’t even have to leave the pool to get to. The best bit? This place offers up 24-hour All Inclusive, so if you’re feeling peckish at midnight there’s no need to wait until morning.
If you ask us, when it comes to holidays, pools are a must. Agree? Well, you’re in luck – there are three to choose from here and if you opt for an Elite Club room, you’ll get a fourth pool thrown in the mix. Plus, pool towels are provided, so you can use the spare space in your suitcase to throw in an extra outfit. Over at the RIU Turquoise spa, relaxation is on the cards thanks to the steam bath and relaxation pool.

Sharing the same stretch of white sand as the RIU Palace is the family-friendly RIU Turquoise. Tropical beach hotels don’t get much better than this – the sand is edged by a lagoon and a coral reef which is perfect for donning your snorkels and heading out for a swim. The watersports roster here is pretty impressive, too. Paddle-boarding and kayaking are both in the mix, or if you want to get your adrenaline pumping you can give windsurfing a whirl. On the pool front, you’ll be treated to lounger-striped sun terraces surrounding the three pools. One of them comes with ocean views, while another is paired with a snack bar. Then there are more sunbathing spots and another bar on the beach. Children have also got a pool all to themselves, too.
When it comes to restaurants you’ve got a quartet to choose from – an international buffet and three à la cartes. The main restaurant is a buffet set-up, with live cooking stations and spreads of international and Mauritian dishes. There are also three speciality restaurants – an Indian place a steakhouse and a grill where you can go for dinner. Worked up a thirst? You’ve got four bars to grab a drink from, as well.
Food aside, there’s a trio of pools and a programme of shows and live music every night. There’s plenty to keep you busy during the day, too, from kitesurfing to art classes. There are two separate RiuLand kids’ club for little ones aged 4 to 7 and 8 to 12 to keep younger ones happy with daytime activities and evening entertainment. And, for when they’re not busy making new pals at the kids’ club, there’s a playground which is great for blowing off some steam. Adults, meanwhile, can head to the gym or join in with a RiuFit class – stretching, aqua aerobics and fitness classes are all on offer. Or escape to the sleek spa and soak in a whirlpool or steam bath. If you really want to relax, choose a treatment from the massage menu, or opt for a beauty treatment instead.
