Curacao

Beaches are only part of Curacao’s appeal. In the capital and colonial old town, Willemstad, pastel-painted buildings line the waterfront, while across the island, you’ll find tucked-away coves for swimming and coral reefs perfect for snorkelling. Away from the coast, you can hike through Christoffel National Park or explore caves carved into the island’s rugged landscape. Few Caribbean destinations have a personality quite like Jamaica, and Negril on the island’s west coast is a great place to experience it. Here, days are spent swimming in clear Caribbean waters, stretching out on white-sand beaches and tucking into jerk food nearby. As the sun goes down, Rick’s Cafe draws the crowds with clifftop views, live reggae and its famous sunset. Barbados

Barbados packs plenty of personality into a relatively small island. Start on the south coast in Maxwell, where St Lawrence Gap’s restaurants, bars and nightlife are close by, then venture beyond the area to see another side of the island. Tour a rum distillery, catch a cricket match or head towards St Philip on the southeast coast, where bigger Atlantic waves bring a wilder feel to the shoreline.
