Liston Street, Corfu Town

Arghios Gordios holidays wrap all the Ionian Islands’ best bits up in a tiny package on the west coast of Corfu. Think gold-hued beaches and cypress trees, spectacular sunsets and historic ruins like the Church of Aghios Spyridon, which come courtesy of the UNESCO-listed Corfu Town. It’s just a bus ride away.

What to expect from Aghios Gordios

Aghios Gordios has all the hallmarks of a classic west coast Corfu village, which gives it a traditional Greek charm that keeps holiday-goers coming back year after year. Little tavernas are dotted along the town centre, and green hills and olive groves are scattered throughout the countryside. Dramatic rock formations add a rustic edge down by the coast, too. Lots of fancy hotels, like the Alkyna Lifestyle Beach Resort, are studded into its edge – this particular place serves a Michelin-starred menu in its à la cartes.

Blue Flag Saint Gordios Beach

You’ve got 1.5 kilometres of golden sand to sink your toes in on Saint Gordios Beach, also known as Agios Gordos Beach. This sunbathing spot is one of the best-loved in all of Corfu, thanks to its crystal-clear waters, which are shallow enough for children to swim in. Sunbed and umbrella hire offer an easy way to upgrade your tanning stints, and there are even private naturist areas. Bronzing aside, you can also sign up for pedalo and boat trips, and dine in traditional beachfront tavernas..

Excursions from Aghios Gordios to Corfu Town

For a change of pace, hop on a 45-minute bus journey (or take yourself on a 30-minute drive) to the capital, Corfu Town. Its UNESCO-listed cobbled streets lead to a 16th-century fortress and the Church of Aghios Spridion, where the relics of a saint sit within a golden shrine. Sightseeing’s hungry work, so be sure to pop by one of the Italian-style Liston colonnade cafés while you’re here. This area was built to imitate the Rue de Rivol in Paris, but has unique Venetian influences. Vibrant nightlife and bars await after sunset, too.
