Petrcane holidays

Petrcane holidays promise island hopping and city sightseeing, plus plenty of beaches to spend lazy days on.
Peter and Cane’s fishing village
Petrcane might sound like a bit of a newbie in the Croatian holiday destinations department, considering the likes of Split and Dubrovnik have been household names ever since Game of Thrones aired in the 2010s. But this place goes way back – legend has it, the coastal village was founded by two brothers called Peter and Cane in the 12th century, and you can tell. The petite town centre’s home to 900-year-old stone houses unique to the Dalmatian Coast, and it’s still a major fishing spot. Dine in a family-run restaurant or konoba, and the seafood-heavy menu will prove it.
A place for flip-flops and sunhats
While crisp linen shirts and floaty maxi dresses have their place in Petrcane – think evenings spent sipping cocktails at one of the town’s beach bars – you’ll want to fill your suitcase with beachy basics when you holiday here. So many pebbled bays line the coast between the town’s nearby peninsulas that you could lay out your towel somewhere new each day of your holiday. There’s nothing stopping you from sticking to a regular sunbathing spot, though – Punta Radman has a shady canopy of pine trees well worth going back for.
Daytrips and vino sips
A mix of Roman ruins and modern art installations await in neighbouring Zadar for when you fancy a spot of sightseeing. Want to double down on your local history? Nearby Nin houses the world’s smallest cathedral, which was built in 800 AD, along with the biggest Roman temple on the eastern Adriatic coast. Plus, the 23-hectare Royal Vineyards are in strolling distance. As if this place couldn’t earn any more points on the location-front, it’s also in prime position for boat trips to Vir Island, or farther-flung outings to the Pakleni Islands. Kornati National Park is worth adding to your list, too – it’s a ‘nautical paradise’ made up of more water than land.
