Get re-energised at this peaceful, family-friendly haven in Thailand, where bungalows and suites are surrounded by tropical gardens. Set in the middle of Khao Lak National Park and fronted by Pak Weep Beach, the hotel’s surrounds are as scenic as they come. When you’re not snapping pictures of the sweeping forests and sandy shoreline here, the nine palm-tree-lined pools and luxury high-beamed buildings shout photo opportunity, too. Add all of this to its four restaurants – two of which are on the beach – a serene spa, action-packed activity programme and splash-ready kids’ pool you can see why it’s made our top seven.

As if the Maldives – with its brilliant-white sands and brightly-hued corals – wasn’t dreamy enough, ROBINSON Club Maldives enhances the experience of luxury island living. Choose between beachside bungalows or those that are suspended over gin-clear waters at this adults-only resort. Some of them come with their own private pools – hello Instagram-worthy sea views. Lookout for yellow angelfish and blue snappers when you’re snorkelling in the bath-warm waters, dine on fresh food in one of the two restaurants or relax as the sun goes down listening to live music or DJs.

This luxury hotel sits pretty on the shores of Khem Beach – one of Vietnam’s best. We’re talking hidden natural coves, superbly soft sands and kaleidoscopic coral reefs. The boutique hotel was once a 19th-century French university and has since been reimagined into an eclectic getaway by the famous designer Bill Bensley. Relax by the seashell-shaped pool, sip cocktails in the chemistry lab-style bar or unwind in one of the lavishly-decorated rooms. Private balconies or villas with their own plunge pools are on the cards here, too. Not to mention there are five restaurants and bars, plus a spa and a gym – where do we book?

With its panoramic Mediterranean views, duo of pools lined with Bali beds and soothing colour palette of whites and greys, switching off comes easy at this Ibiza-based hotel. The two pools are the stars of the show, set in an ocean-facing terrace, while the rooms – given chic finishing touches by fashion designer Desigual – come up second. They feature playful pops of colour and come with rainfall showers and sweeping vistas. You’ll be forgiven for wanting to spend your afternoons by the pool or the beach here – but with a location this great – bars, restaurants and markets are all a short stroll away – getting out into the local area is a must.

This beachfront hotel couldn’t be closer to Cancun’s chalk-white shoreline if it tried. Spaces here are design led – think clean lines and modern, minimalist interiors – and all point to the Atlantic’s azure waters. Thanks to its private waterside decks and organised beach parties, it’s the ideal mix of laidback and party – perfect for adults. Top up your tan by one of the big outdoor pools, relax in the terrace hot tub or dance to DJ sets on the sand. Hot tip – you can order champagne to a Bali bed beside the beach. There are five restaurants here, too as well as a gym and swim-up bars.

This rural retreat in Ubud elevates Bali to a whole new level of luxury. Tucked away between rice fields, the meandering Petanu River and tropical jungle, picture-perfect scenery is a given. The wood and pale green buildings blend effortlessly into the natural surrounds and help to create a sense of calm. Set between 10 hectares of lush grounds, it feels like it’s a world away from away from any hustle and bustle, too yet it’s just a short 10 minute’ drive from Ubud’s colour-popping markets and temples. Top features here also include a spa by the banks of the river, an infinity pool and an open-air yoga studio – fancy.

There’s paradise and then there’s TUI BLUE Lagoon Mauritius. Set on a white-sand beach, spilling into a secluded lagoon on Mauritius’ northern coast, it’s a tropical hideaway at its finest. Apart from the attention-grabbing scenery, this hotel flaunts stylish rooms with whirlpool baths, three palm-tree lined pools and a state-of-the-art spa. Head out on a kayak or a glass-bottom boat to get the best pictures of the coastline or hire a bike to get those Instagram-worthy snaps of the local surroundings.
