Best time to visit Cyprus

Cyprus calling? Here's when to go.
The best time to visit Cyprus is between May and June. Not only is it one of the driest periods of the year on the island, but it’s also nice and toasty – temperatures hover between 23 and 28 degrees, with up to 13 hours of sunshine a day. And while these months are great if you want to bask in the sunshine, beaches are only part of the story on a holiday to Cyprus. The island is also home to mountainous scenery, centuries-old archaeological sights and unforgettable food. Once you’ve decided when to go, check out our deals on Cyprus holidays.

BEST FOR HOT WEATHER

The mercury soars in Cyprus in July and August. Temperatures don’t fall much shy of 30 degrees, and there’s little-to-no rainfall and over 12 hours of sunshine. Cyprus’ hot summers are the prime time for sunbathing and watersports. If you’ve got little ones, pick one of our family-friendly hotels and the kids will have plenty of space to play in the shade. If uninterrupted time in the sun is more your style, opt for an adults-only escape to one of our TUI BLUE For Two hotels.

BEST FOR QUIETER HOLIDAYS

If you want to skip the crowds on your trip to Cyprus, avoid the busy summer months. April and October are two of Cyprus’ quietest months for tourists, but thanks to the Mediterranean climate, the weather’s still warm – think temperatures around the mid-twenties mark. So, whether you’re after a secluded beach in Larnaca or fancy exploring the ancient sights of Paphos, you won’t be competing with the crowds.

BEST FOR EXPLORING

Head to inland Cyprus and you’ll find tiny traditional villages, pine-covered hills and olive groves that stretch out for miles. Then there’s the Troodos Mountains, which are ideal for hiking and biking. This peak-filled range stretches across most of Cyprus’ western side and is home to nine UNESCO-listed churches and plenty of wild flowers. In winter, there are even a few ski runs to scale. For the best weather conditions for outdoor adventures, visit Cyprus in March or April. Temperatures stick around the mid-teens but you’ll still be able to avoid most of the island’s rainfall.

BEST FOR HISTORY LOVERS

There’s plenty to see away from Cyprus’ sand-fringed shorelines. Paphos is packed full of UNESCO-listed sites where you can soak up the city’s ancient culture. You’ve got Aphrodite’s Rock – which is said to be where the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, rose from the sea. There’s also Tombs of the Kings, a necropolis filled with fresco walls and majestic crumbling columns that date back to the 4th century, and House of Dionysos where you’ll see some impressive Greek mosaics. Avoid the heat and the crowds by visiting these sights during the cooler, quieter months – April and October, the beginning and end of high season – are both good picks.
