Best Excursions in Marrakech

Souks, palaces and desert adventures – get the inside scoop on the best excursions in Marrakech.
Marrakech is a place for dusty adventures, ornate mosques, spiced foods and one-of-a-kind shopping experiences – so you won’t be short of things to do while you’re there. But picking out of the hundreds of great experiences that this Moroccan city can offer isn’t easy. Luckily, we’ve done the research for you, and picked the best excursions to tick off on your to-do list when you visit the Red City.

BEST EXCURSIONS FOR ADVENTURE

If a holiday for you is less bathing on the beach and more scaling mountains, then you’ll love Marrakech’s excursions. Take the Berber Trails 4x4 Tour, for example. While you might be able to see the Atlas Mountains from the ground, it’s far more fun to see them up close by jumping in an off-road vehicle. You’ll travel through the Atlas Mountains’ rural terrains passing Berber villages, vibrant peaks and deep valleys. There’s no better way to give in to your adventurous side while enjoying some of Marrakech’s finest scenery.

For something a little slower paced, the Ouzoud Falls excursion offers one of the top sights in Morocco. These three-tiered waterfalls are over 100 metres tall and often show off a colourful rainbow in the mist that’s thrown up from the torrents of water. Once you’ve finished taking photos of the panoramic views, look up in the trees for the chance to spot some endangered Barbary apes. Native to the forests of Morocco, this is the only place outside of Asia to see these fascinating monkeys, otherwise known as magots.

BEST EXCURSION FOR LOCAL CULTURE

By day, Jemaa el-Fna is a crowded square. But as soon as night falls, the city’s focal point really comes to life – which you can experience on our Marrakech by Night excursion. You’ll travel by horse and carriage – also known as a caleche – here the evening show really begins to unfold. It’s also a great time to sample some authentic Moroccan food the only way you should – fresh from the chefs’ grills.

BEST EXCURSION FOR SHOPPING

If the favourite part of your holiday is buying unique souvenirs to bring back home with you, you’ve come to the right place. On our Marrakech Medina & Souks Tour, you’ll be shown one of Marrakech’s famous open-air markets, known as souks, which are a huge part of Moroccan life and can be found in every town here. You’ll even find souks in small countryside areas, where the markets are held once a week. You’ll get the chance to browse over 60,000 stalls, with everything from handcrafted tapestries to brass lanterns on display. Haggling is welcomed, so you’ll be sure to get a bargain here.
