Best time to go to Negril (Green Island)

Jamaica’s middle-of-the-Caribbean location means it enjoys balmy temperatures all year round. The summer months are the hottest, with temperatures topping 30 degrees. Winter is a bit cooler, but still toasty by UK standards – expect the mercury to hover in the mid to high 20s. This is the driest time to visit – most of the island’s rain falls in summer and autumn. Jamaica has high levels of humidity throughout the year, with June to August being especially high. We would advise you to leave windows and balcony doors closed as much as possible to make the most of the air-con and reduce humidity levels hotel rooms. And while we’re on the subject of hotels, you may find that some facilities, such as restaurants and bars, aren’t available from late April to May and from mid-August to mid-November, but there’ll be enough open so you can still enjoy your stay. Hurricane season is from June to November, with August and September being the peak months. Severe storms are pretty rare, though.

Just so you know, the beaches on this stretch of coastline sometimes experience increased levels of seaweed – called sargassum. It’s influenced by the weather and ocean currents. If your hotel’s affected, the staff will do everything they can to clear it.
