Green by name, green by nature

Every bit as tropical as the name suggests, Green Island is a natural beauty on Jamaica’s north coast. While not an island per se, the small village still offers marooned-style seclusion, with tucked-away sandy coves and a smattering of beach bars to its name. Despite this, you can hop in the car and be at Negril’s bustling Seven Mile Beach within 25 minutes, or the celebrity haunt of Lucea in less than 20.

Jungle adventures

There’s plenty of adrenaline to tempt you off your sunbed here, including ATV tours through the jungle, horse riding and zip-lining. All are located at an adventure park just a five-minute drive from Green Island. If extreme sports aren’t for you, you can hop on an authentic bamboo river raft to cruise through the lagoons instead. These historic rafts were once used to transport sugar cane and bananas between plantations and the port, ready for international export. Now, they make for a serene way to experience Jamaica’s lush, tropical interior.

Nearby Negril

Hop in a cab, and in 25 minutes you’ll find yourself in chilled-out Negril – a catchment area for coral reefs, talcum-powder sand, and boulevards buzzing with boutiques and grill carts. Most of the action takes place along the town’s iconic Seven Mile Beach, where the daily grind involves nothing but watersports, sun worshipping and sipping from a frosty bottle of Red Stripe. At the North End, luxury hotels and restaurants line the sand, while in the centre, reggae rum bars ooze local character.
