Hurghada City’s the biggest settlement in this part of Egypt, and has loads of fancy features up its sleeve. There’s also a St-Tropez-style marina that’s backed by gourmet restaurants, as well as an old quarter that’s home to a massive mosque and a bustling bazaar. Kick back in Makadi Bay

Drive 45 minutes down the coast and you’ll find another of Hurghada’s high-class hamlets, Makadi Bay. This lively town has a lot of the same ingredients as Hurghada City, including five-star beaches and a picture-perfect waterfront. It has a few of its own specialties, too. The Makadi Mall, for example, is one of the biggest shopping centres in this part of Egypt, and its restaurant line-up includes Egyptian, Indian, Chinese, Italian and French à la cartes. There are plenty of discos around Makadi Bay, as well, which keep their neon lights and bass-pumping soundtracks on until the early hours.
