Why you should book a solo river cruise

Trip for one? Our river cruises have you covered.
River cruising along Europe’s iconic waterways or down the Nile is an experience everyone should be able to enjoy. And at TUI River Cruises, it doesn’t matter how big or small your travel party is. In fact, all of our sailings are suited for single travellers looking to relax on the river and soak up some culture. Plus, we’ve stepped things up with three new solo-only sailings – more on those below. Fancy casting off with us? Here’s what you can expect on a solo river cruise…

Modern single cabins

All of our ships have solo cabins with a single bed, a desk and a lounge chair, as well as an en-suite bathroom. On TUI Isla, TUI Maya and TUI Skyla, Deck 1 single cabins come with a porthole window at the waterline, giving you a fish-eye view of the ports, cities and sprawling countryside our river cruises are known for. Fancy feeling the breeze while you soak up the views? You can opt for a cabin with a French balcony on Deck 2. You’ll get a similar vibe onboard TUI Bahareya, where the solo cabins on deck 3 have a French balcony, and TUI Al Horeya – the solo cabins on Deck 2 and 3 come with a window you can open. If you’re cruising on TUI Aria, you’re in luck – these solo cabins are the same size as the superior ones. Win. And if you’re hopping aboard our newest ship, TUI Luzia, the solo cabins are on deck 1 and come with a picture window.

Dining to suit you

Single river cruisers are well looked after on the food front with TUI River Cruises. At breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can choose to dine on your own. If you’re in the mood to mingle with some of the other guests onboard, you can let the restaurant staff at any of our of eateries know and they’ll seat you with other like-minded single cruisers.

Inclusive entertainment and activities

Nobody’s left out onboard a TUI river cruise when it comes to entertainment and activities. The live music, quizzes and movie screenings that typically make up our entertainment agenda are available to everyone, so you’re welcome to come and go as you choose. Plus, we've got a range of activities on our daytime programme to get involved with, from craft sessions to VR games and wellness classes. If you prefer some peace and quiet with a good book, we have a selection of books onboard that you can take your pick from. Or, you can unwind on the top deck or relax with a drink in the Observatory Lounge. Total bliss.

Explore at your own pace

Being onboard your ship is only one side of the river cruise coin. Ashore, solo travellers – just like every other party size onboard – can explore the ports we visit at their own pace. Keen to pop to the nearest winery and sample the local tipple? Got your heart set on exploring that hilltop castle? Want to splash some cash in the riverside shops? You can – just remember to be back onboard your ship before we cast off.

Plenty of shore experiences

If you’re not sure what you want to do in port, we’ve got a hefty collection of shore experiences for you to pick from, with the likes of guided walking tours, wine-tastings and museum visits on the line-up. Plus, we like to keep the group sizes small on our shore experiences, so you’ll have more time to get to know some of your fellow cruisers while you explore.

Solo-only sailings

Solo travellers, these sailings are just for you – and for the friendship groups who love holidaying together but want their own space. Take your pick from our upcoming adventures, starting with the Dutch & Belgian Treasures seven-night sailing in March 2026, where you’ll weave through Rotterdam, Cologne and more iconic European spots. If a shorter break’s more your vibe, the Dutch & German Escape – also sailing in March 2026 – drops anchor in Koblenz, Cologne and Rotterdam on a four-night sailing. Later in November, hop aboard our Enchanting Danube seven-night cruise that calls at Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava and the charming Austrian trio – Krems, Melk and Durnstein.

Onboard, you can expect a personalised service – whether it’s remembering your go-to dining spot or your favourite tipple – thanks to a crew-to-guest ratio of one to three. Your cruise will kick off with a welcome party, where you’ll meet other like-minded cruisers. Once in port, you can see the sights at your own pace or join one of our small group experiences to connect with others. Prefer to unwind? Head to the wellness area onboard for a soak in the hot tub or a session in the sauna – it’s all included.
