Where to stay in Santorini

Oia's sunsets or Kamari’s beaches? Find your perfect base in Santorini.
Santorini is the jewel in the crown of the Greek islands. Its famed whitewashed walls have romanced couples for centuries, offering up Blue Flag beaches, sleepy villages, and dramatic sweeping views of the Aegean. But where to stay? We’ve compiled a list of hotspots across the island to consider for your next holiday. And don’t worry if you fancy more than one – renting a car is an easy way to see it all. Once you’ve picked your spot, check out our deals to find your perfect break.

TRY KAMARI FOR BEACHES

This popular beach town neighbours both the Aegean and Meso Vouno, the biggest mountain on the island. You’ll find Santorini’s most famous length of sand, Kamari Beach here – it’s got Blue Flag status, and stretches two-kilometres along the coastline. Stay at Hotel Kamari Beach for a pool with a sea view, as well as easy access to a black-sand beach plus local shops and restaurants. And in the evening Kamari comes alive, with entertainment at the bars and romantic, candlelit dinners on offer in the stylish restaurants.

HEAD TO FIROSTEFANI FOR QUIET GETAWAYS

If you’re visiting Santorini in search of a peaceful break and sunset views, head to Firostefani. Located on the western cliff edge of Santorini’s caldera, the volcanic crater that shapes the island, it offers a quiet escape from busier towns. During the day, visit the local cathedrals and restaurants, or venture out of the village to capital Thira, which is easily within walking distance. Stay at Cliff Side Suites for incredible views of the sun setting over the Aegean without leaving your balcony.

CHECK OUT THIRA FOR LOCAL CULTURE

Santorini's capital city Thira is made up of whitewashed walls topped with powder-blue domes. The iconic houses, often adorned with brightly coloured flowers, creates a romantic haven for couples. The city is ideally located for boat trips to Thirassia, where you and your beau can swim in the hot springs of Palea Kameni beach. Thira is also a hotspot for cruise ships visiting Santorini, where passengers ride a cable car up to the main town to explore the island’s smattering of museums and galleries. If Thira is the place for you, the Santorini Palace Hotel is only a five minute walk from the city, and offers volcano views from the swimming pool.

STAY IN OIA FOR SUNSETS

Oia is another of Santorini’s tranquil communities, nestled in the northernmost part of the caldera. Its winding streets are bursting with independent stores and art galleries, and you’ll find the best views on the island here. Catch the sun setting while enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants flaunting a sea view, or at the La Maltese Oia, a boutique hotel clinging to the clifftop. You won’t be competing for sunset-watching space here, as this tiny hotel only hosts five sets of visitors at once.
