Top 5 things to do at Universal Orlando Resort for kids

Heading to Universal Orlando Resort with kids under 8? Tick these off your must-do list.
Let’s face it, the list of top things to do for kids at Universal Orlando Resort is a rather long one – this place is a pint-sized visitor’s playground. But if you’re coming with children, particularly toddlers and primary-schoolers, it’s really handy to know which rides and attractions might suit them best before you arrive – so you can save time and make a beeline straight for them.

So, we’ve picked out five of our favourites to get your research off the ground, from tot-friendly rollercoasters to play areas perfect for letting off steam. We’re looking at you, Trolls Trollercoaster and Camp Jurassic.

We’ve focussed on the best things for kids from toddler age to around eight years old, and included those all-important height restrictions – so you can enjoy every moment, minus any height-related meltdowns.

1. If it’s their first time on a rollercoaster… The Trolls Trollercoaster

This family-friendly ride in DreamWorks Land in Universal Studios Florida is the perfect first rollercoaster for little ones who measure 92 cm and up – it’s short, sweet, and not too scary. You’ll step aboard the caterpillar-style Caterbus and make an escape from some spooky (though not-too-spooky) spiders. Just bear in mind that children under 122cm need to be accompanied by an adult, which is your excuse to jump on too.

2. If they need to let off steam… Po's Kung Fu Training Camp

There are loads of children’s play areas at Universal Orlando Resort, including a couple of excellent options in DreamWorks Land where toddlers and younger children can burn off some energy. Our top choice is Po's Kung Fu Training Camp – the kids will love getting absolutely soaked by the pesky pandas and spinning in Mr Ping's noodle bowls.

3. If they want to meet their idols… Character meet and greets

There’s certainly no shortage of character encounters here, but if they’re obsessed with Hiccup and Toothless, head to How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. It’s at Universal Epic Universe, the newest of all four theme parks, and there’s a whole roster of familiar faces in the Haddock Paddock including these two. Plus, you might spot a few dragons soaring overhead. The play area here is also really good for toddlers and younger kids in particular.

4. If they’re over 100cm… Hiccup’s Wing Gliders

Passed that 100cm sweet spot for the bigger rides? Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, also in How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, is a must-do for adventure-seekers. It’s another great first rollercoaster, but with a bit more white-knuckle appeal than the Trolls Trollercoaster. Riders need to be 102cm tall, and you’ll soar through the sky with dragons.

5. If they want the whole family to get involved… Constellation Carousel

Looking for something to suit all ages? Constellation Carousel is the one, as there’s no height requirement – so it’s a good option if you’ve got kids of different ages. Climb aboard your celestial carriage and you’ll spin 360 degrees while travelling across the Milky Way below a ceiling of twinkling stars.
