How to get cheap flights

Pssst – here’s how to find cheap flights.

Everyone loves a bargain, right? From trying to work out what time of day you’ll find the lowest flight price, to debating whether it’s worth ditching direct flights and stopping in a city halfway to your destination, we're willing to go the extra mile to save you money. Enter: our tops tips on how to get cheap flights. Take a look at our flight deals to make the most of them...

1. Be flexible with destinations and time of year

If you’re able to be flexible about where you go and when, you’re more likely to get a deal. So, keep an open mind – if you usually pick Portugal, why not try Croatia? It’s a great opportunity to experience a new culture and see a different part of the world. It’s also often cheaper to fly outside of the school holidays, so if you don’t have little ones, aim for a summer break in June or September – AKA, shoulder season. You’re more likely to get a good deal on your flight search at these times.

2. Keep checking back on prices

Need the cheapest flight possible? Make sure to check prices on ones departing late at night or early in the morning. Weekend flights can often cost more, too, so do your research before you book. And, if you fly in the evening you can avoid hotel costs the night before. Try and travel from your local airport if you can for these flights, so it’s cheaper to get to the airport, too. TUI fly from over loads of airports across the UK, including Leeds Bradford and Gatwick, so chances are you’ll have one nearby.

3. Consider flying on official UK holiday dates

It’s not unusual for there to be a price drop on flights to certain destinations around Christmas and New Year’s Day, as less people want to travel on holidays. If you fancy a long-haul break to somewhere warm with plenty of beach to go around, why not try Sri Lanka? These deals don’t stick around for long, so don’t forget our second tip. If you do have a location you’d like to visit in mind, make sure you keep an eye on flight deals during the festive period.

4. Fly with TUI Airways

Don’t rule out booking directly through charter airlines when looking at flights, as you don’t have to be on one of our package holidays to fly with TUI. We offer a flight-only option, meaning you can jet off to spots across the world.

5. Choose a package holiday

You may think it’s more cost effective to buy flights through a budget airline and book your hotel separately, but choose a package break and you’ll get accommodation and transfers included. It’s worth comparing overall costs to see if you can save money, and if you go All Inclusive, meals, drinks and snacks are all part of the deal, too. Plus, TUI package holidays come with ATOL and ABTA protection, so you know you and your pennies are safe.
