Fall in love with Paris
As the saying goes, Paris is always a good idea. And where else would you want to spend Valentine’s Day than the City of Love? From sunset strolls along the Seine to starry-eyed dinners on the 5th arrondissement (AKA, the city’s top place for food and drink), say ‘oui’ to the endless opportunities for romance à Paris. Our dream way to spend the day? Pack a picnic for the Palace of Versailles, rent a rowboat for two to see the Temple of Love and spend a moment soaking up the view across the lake – sigh.

Venture to Venice
Live ‘la dolce vita’ in the city tailor-made for two. Made up of 118 floating islands linked by 400 bridges – each with charming cobblestone piazzas – there’s something fairytale-like about Venice. If you ask us, there’s nothing more romantic than a meandering gondola ride past a bunch of beautiful baroque buildings. Add a serenading gondolier, and you have your own love story. Feeling hungry? Cantina Do Spade, once the restaurant where Cassanova wined and dined with his many girlfriends, is the perfect place for two. You’ll find it behind the Rialto Fish Market, a few steps from the romantic Rialto bridge.

Valentine’s in Verona
Few cities rival the home of Romeo and Juliet for romance. Take one look at the Medieval alleyways and Roman architecture, and it’s easy to see why Shakespeare chose this place as the setting for a great love story. Follow in the footsteps of the star-crossed lovers and tick off Juliet’s balcony and statue, the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore and the San Francesco al Corso Monastery. One of the city’s lesser-known romantic spots has to be Castel San Pietro (AKA, St Peter's Castle). Take the cable car at sunset to the castle and snap a golden hour shot over the city – bellissimo.

Visit timeless Vienna
From sunset sailings along the Danube to strolls around storybook palaces, romance is what Vienna does best. And it doesn’t get more romantic than a spin through the cobbled streets in a traditional horse-drawn carriage. Top tip: take a trip in the evening and you’ll feel like you’re in a fairytale as you meander past the city’s palaces, squares and monuments lit in a golden glow – magic. Fancy something sweet? Share a slice of the city’s signature cake, sachertorte. Made up of chocolate sponge, chocolate icing and apricot jam, you’ll find it everywhere – from corner cafés to upmarket restaurants.

Stay a while in Sintra
Leave Lisbon to the crowds – there’s something swoon-worthy about Sintra, just an hour’s train from the capital. Once home to Portuguese royalty, this town is packed with ornate palaces and pretty cobbled streets, earning it UNESCO World Heritage credentials. Fall in love with the regal orange-and-yellow Pena Palace – the perfect place to pop the question. Amble around the stairways, turrets and balconies, and you’ll stumble upon a view stretching out for miles across Pena Palace Park and the hilltop ruins of Moorish Castle.
