Carnival city

Rio de Janeiro is a city bursting with colour, rhythm and endless sights. To hit its highlights, hop on a train to the tropical Tijuca Forest – one of the largest urban rainforests in the world – and hike to the top where you’ll stand just beneath the Christ the Redeemer statue. Next, feel Rio’s rhythm at the Sambadrome, the iconic stage of the world-famous carnival every year, before taking a vintage cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain. Here, panoramic views of golden beaches, surrounding seas and a dreamy cityscape await. Your camera roll won’t know what’s hit it.

Chasing waterfalls

Follow the well-marked trail through the Iguaçu National Park to soak up insta-worthy views from Iguassu Falls – a massive waterfall system with nearly 280 falls on the border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. On your way, snap misty, rainbow-filled shots at the epic Falls Viewpoint, before gearing up for the main event, the Devil’s Throat – the park’s biggest and most powerful waterfall. Warning: getting soaked is guaranteed.

Amazon adventures

Head deep into the Amazon Rainforest to hike alongside local guides, snack on fresh jungle fruits and pick up survival skills straight from the source. You can visit a wildlife rehab centre and catch rescued monkeys at feeding time – it’s as heart-melting as it sounds – or take a boat trip to a riverside home and get a glimpse at how locals – including local indigenous communities – live off the land. For the thrill seekers, there’s piranha fishing, and when night falls, you can join a canoe tour where you might spot gator eyes glowing under the stars.
