BEST FOR FAMILIES – SUGAR BEACH, A VICEROY RESORT – SOUFRIERE

When it comes to setting, this west-coast hotel is typically tropical. It blends into its forest-covered backdrop, which gives it a really authentic feel. And the hotel’s name – Sugar Beach – makes perfect sense when you see the white sands that slope into classically St Lucian warm waters. Inside, an all-white colour scheme keeps things bright and breezy. When it comes to activities, there’s a kids’ club for little ones, a watersports centre, and a spa. Rather than hotel rooms, this place lines up luxury villas complete with four-poster beds, private plunge pools and butler service. Upgrade to a Superior Villa, and ocean views are guaranteed.

Some of St Lucia’s best sights are right on your doorstep, too. For starters, the sea right in front of the hotel is known for its colourful fish – it’s an ideal spot for snorkelling. Plus – even better – you’ll find the famous Piton Mountains on either side of the cove that the hotel sits in.

BEST FOR BARGAIN HUNTERS – BEL JOU HOTEL – CASTRIES

If you think Caribbean holidays are bound to break the bank, this hotel will make you think again. This small-and-friendly number has snapped up a spot in Castries, St Lucia’s capital city. But that doesn’t mean that this hotel’s a city-centre number. In fact, you’ll find it perched on top of a green-cloaked hill, just two minutes’ drive from a white-sand beach. The hotel’s free shuttle bus will take you into the city, or to the beach. By night, the hotel’s hilltop spot makes it a prime spot for stargazing.

It’s an adults-only hotel, so you can expect peaceful evenings spent sipping drinks at the rooftop cocktail bar. Plus, for food, there are two Caribbean restaurants to choose from. There’s a pair of pools, too, which are accessorised by Bali beds and loungers.

BEST FOR FOODIES – HARBOR CLUB – RODNEY BAY

The Harbor Club can be found in ever-popular Rodney Bay. It’s a four-star spot, and the views across the sea are top-notch. Beach days here will make you feel like an A-lister. It has its own private beach just across the harbour on Pigeon Island – hop in one of the hotel’s powerboat and you’ll be there in no time. Or, stay put and make the most of the tiered infinity pools. They come with all the trimmings, too, from in-water loungers to swim-up bars.

For food, the hotel deals in fine dining. Its line-up of restaurants includes a sushi spot, a pizzeria, and a pasta place. And there’s a bakery, where Swiss-trained bakers make artisan bread, pastries and cakes fresh every day. For drinks, you can choose between a few bars. Our favourite’s the Sky Lounge, which shakes up handcrafted cocktails to be enjoyed alongside views over Rodney Bay.
