Best hotels in Prague

From central locations to swimming pools and one-of-a-kind spas, these Prague hotels should be on your shortlist.
Old Town or New Town? When you’re planning a city break to Prague, it’s one of the first questions that comes up. These two areas – anchored either side of the Vltava River and linked by the Charles Bridge – claim a huge share of the city’s main sights. But they’re just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to deciding where to stay for your Czech Republic trip.

In fact, Prague 1 – the city’s most central zone – also packs in the castle district, Jewish Quarter and Lesser Quarter, each with its own collection of must-see sights and a list of hotels to match. To help you decide where to base yourself in the city, we’ve picked out some of the best hotels in Prague to get your search off to a flying start.

Hotel Elite Prague

Tucked down a side street in Prague’s bustling New Town, Hotel Elite is a bit of a Tardis. Step inside the unassuming 14th-century building and you’ll find a smart lobby bar, a restaurant where breakfast is served under an ornate arched ceiling, and a collection of elegant rooms including some super-sophisticated suites.

Elsewhere in the hotel, nice-to-haves include a sauna, wellness treatments like massages, and a neat courtyard garden. When you want to head out, Wenceslas and Old Town Squares are both within a couple of minutes’ walk away. And Charles Bridge – one of the most-photographed spots in the world and your gateway to Prague’s Old Town – is a 15-minute walk.

Michelangelo Grand Hotel

Another hotel in the heart of Prague’s New Town, Michelangelo Grand Hotel is perhaps best-known for its Beer Spa. Book this treatment for two and you can wallow in a handmade oak tub filled with hops extracts while sipping on unlimited dark or pale Krušovice beer. Yes, really.

As for other facilities, the hotel’s storied exterior is complemented by modern interiors – think smart bedrooms with luxury toiletries and Nespresso coffee machines, and elegant public spaces including a lobby bar and a restaurant serving buffet breakfasts. For all other meals you’ve got the best of the New Town on your doorstep – head in the direction of Wenceslas Square and you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Red & Blue Design

Over the other side of the Vltava River in Prague’s leafy castle district, Red & Blue Design hotel is on the edge of Petrin Park – a vast hillside garden with a funicular railway and viewing tower. It’s about a 15-minute walk from here to Charles Bridge and the heart of the Old Town, and another 15 minutes if you want to cross over and explore the New Town and Wenceslas Square.

There’s a tram stop practically outside the hotel, so you can hop on and sightsee without the legwork. And all the essentials are covered back at base, with a restaurant serving simple buffet breakfasts in the mornings and a lobby bar and comfy modern rooms to unwind in at night.

Hilton Prague Old Town

As the name suggests, this Art Deco Hilton property is in the heart of Prague’s Old Town – the main square is a 10-minute walk away, along with The Powder Tower and Old Town gates. There’s a metro station – Náměstí Republikya – a minute’s walk away, so you’re well connected to the other parts of the city, too.

Hotel swimming pools are few and far between in Prague, so the indoor one here is a great find. There’s a gym and spa, too, and the dining scene is another talking point. Zinc restaurant is the place to head for big breakfast spreads, and Zinc lounge bar serves up everything from local dinner dishes to signature cocktails.

Innside by Meliá Prague Old Town

Designed by Spanish architect Meritxell Cuartero, Innside by Meliá Prague Old Town has a modernist feel that runs through everything from the contemporary rooms to the modern à la carte restaurant. Buffet breakfasts are served up in the latter, which doubles as a bar at night and spills onto a smart courtyard terrace.

Step outside the hotel, and the Old Town scenery is in stark contrast to the hotel’s modernist décor. Prague’s ornate Gothic architecture shares the limelight with a whole timeline of sights including a medieval astronomical clock and 14th-century bridge. For the bulk of the big-name sights, walk 10 minutes to the main square – which itself dates back to the 10th century.
