Best hotels in Jamaica

Wondering where to stay in Jamaica? Take your pick from these luxury-heavy hotels and wonder no more.
The best hotels in Jamaica are scattered across this Caribbean island like seashells on a tropical shoreline, and all come with their own set of USPs. The hotels in Montego Bay, for example, are some of the most luxurious of all, while visitors head to Ocho Rios to be within striking distance of the epic Dunn’s River Falls – and the ice-white beach it cascades into.

Speaking of beaches, you’ll be hard pressed to find a hotel in Jamaica that doesn’t land you on an incredible stretch of sand. But pick a property in Negril – on the island’s most westerly tip – and you’re right on the doorstep of Seven Mile Beach, one of the world’s best. We’ve whittled down some of Jamaica’s best hotels to whet your appetite for a tropical escape.

When you’re ready, check out all our Jamaica holidays.

Riu Ocho Rios

The Riu Ocho Rios is a supersized hotel right on the sand of Jamaica’s northern shoreline. It’s less than a 10-minute drive from Dunn’s River Falls, which is an absolute must-do while you’re here. Plus, if you keep going further along the coast you’ll reach shopping centres, craft markets and Main Street – which is packed to the rafters with places to eat.

Facilities-wise, the hotel counts five pools, six bars and a splash park among its long list of highlights, and there’s a daytime kids’ club and hangout club for teens. Book an All Inclusive package and you get three buffet restaurants and a gourmet à la carte to pick from, plus Jamaican jerk barbecues at lunch and a steakhouse for dinners by the pool.

Riu Montego Bay

Over in Montego Bay, this adults-only property is another scene-stealer thanks to its white-sand beach setting. Wander through the hotel’s tropical palm gardens and you’ll find five big pools – four of which come with sunken sunloungers, and one that flaunts a chic swim-up bar with in-water seats and a cocktail menu.

There’s also a waterpark packed with slides that’s open six days a week, introductory scuba diving sessions in the pool, stand-up paddleboarding that launches from the beach and a PADI dive school where you can pay extra for lessons. And when it comes to evening entertainment, the hotel has its own nightclub – Pacha – and runs weekly pool parties with a live DJ.

Riu Palace Tropical Bay

Got your eye on Negril? Riu Palace Tropical Bay has an enviable spot on the white sands of Bloody Bay Beach, a 15-minute drive along the coast from Negril’s centre. It lives up to its name with plenty of lush greenery and plenty of suitably palatial touches.

Three giant pools come with in-water loungers, and there’s an adults-only spot with a swim-up bar. Elegant suites come with in-room optics and 24-hour room service, and the All Inclusive set-up includes five restaurants that tick off a gourmet fusion eatery, an Italian trattoria and a Japanese à la carte. Still peckish? Make a beeline for Lounge 24, where snacks and nibbles are served around the clock.

Royalton Negril, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort

Nearby in Negril, the Royalton Negril is tucked in a sandy cove with a location that gives you lots of options. Seven-Mile Beach is practically next door, boat trips are on hand to take you over to the offshore reef, and the restaurants and bars of Negril’s West End are a 15-minute taxi hop away.

This being a Royalton hotel, it’s full of premium touches – from the cutting-edge spa to the seriously sleek rooms. Expect 24-hour room service as standard, and some extra-luxe upgrade options if you want to push the boat out – including access to an exclusive, butler-served area of the beach.

Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica

Peaceful Runaway Bay – which sits in the middle of Ocho Rios and Montego Bay – is where you’ll find Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica, an extravagantly large hotel that spreads out in front of a private sandy beach. It ticks off all the white-sand, turquoise-sea Caribbean stereotypes, and you might even spot nesting turtles here if you’re lucky.

Inside, things are decidedly swish – rooms, for example, are junior suites with hydro massage tubs, and nearly all of them come with sea views. Three vast pools hog the limelight outside, four à la carte restaurants steal the show inside, and there’s even a full-blown leisure and shopping centre. Factor in a disco, a spa and a penchant for throwing beach parties and you get the measure of this go-big-or-go-home hotel.
