These Amsterdam hotels place you within easy reach of the city’s best sights, and line up features like indoor pools, chic spas and terrace bars.
Planning an Amsterdam trip? The first step to any successful city break is working out where to stay, and in the capital of the Netherlands you’ve got options.

If you want a central spot with lots of walkable sights in reach, choose a hotel in the buzzy central canal ring. But if you’d prefer to base yourself in an area with a more peaceful vibe, somewhere like the boho De Pijp neighbourhood is worth looking at.

Can’t decide? Take a look at our pick of the best hotels in Amsterdam to get you started.

Pestana Amsterdam Riverside

As the name suggests, this elegant hotel overlooks the Amstel River in the city’s bohemian De Pijp neighbourhood. It’s fairly quiet but well-connected – you’re looking at a 10-minute walk to the Wibautstraat metro station, 12 minutes to The Carre theatre, 18 to the Heineken Experience and half an hour to the Rijksmuseum.

The hotel itself has claimed the former Town Hall building, and the 19th-century setting is suitably grand. Expect a mixture of ornate Renaissance architecture and modern décor in places like the bedrooms and annexes. The indoor pool is a talking point and comes with a chic spa, and the restaurant is a popular spot for dinner – pick a table on the outdoor patio for an al fresco meal.

Hilton Amsterdam

Another hotel in a quiet but well-connected residential area, Hilton Amsterdam looks out over the Noorder-Amstel canal. To give you an idea of location, it’s a 15-minute walk from Museumplein – the city’s biggest square – where you’ll find a long list of must-visits including the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. It’s about a six-minute walk to the nearest tram stop if you want to explore a bit further.

Inside, the Italian fine dining restaurant – Roberto’s – gets good reviews from guests, as do the signature cocktails in the Half Moon Lounge. And for a drink or light bites with a view, stop off at the hotel’s Garden Terrace al fresco bar. It’s only open when the weather’s playing ball, serving cocktails, coffees and canalside views.

Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam

Sandwiched between two canals, this upmarket hotel is in Amsterdam’s bustling city centre. It’s a five-minute walk from Royal Palace Amsterdam, and if you keep walking another ten minutes, you’ll find yourself at Anne Frank House.

The building itself used to be a 15th-century convent, and more recently Amsterdam’s city hall. Smart rooms are paired with a sleek spa and pool, and the dining scene is a scene-stealer. Oriole Garden Bistro serves Mediterranean fare in a leafy indoor-outdoor setting, and the Garden Terrace opens in warmer weather and hosts the hotel’s signature afternoon tea.

WestCord Fashion Hotel Amsterdam

This contemporary property is in the Nieuw-West suburb of Amsterdam, a 15-minute walk from one end of Vondelpark – the city’s expansive green space. Walk all the way to the other end of the park and you’ll reach the Rijksmuseum, or hop on the tram – there’s a stop just up the road from the hotel and the journey takes about 30 minutes.

Inside the hotel there’s a pool, gym and wellness centre where you can pay for beauty treatments and massages. The brasserie, Mme Coco, serves French-Dutch cuisine on a leafy terrace, and the 10th-floor SKYY Bar is the place to sip a cocktail with sweeping views across the city.
