Discover Tenerife's best beaches.
The Canary Islands are a firm favourite with British holidaymakers – largely thanks to their year-round sunshine. But, whether you’re heading off on a winter getaway or summer break, beautiful beaches are probably at the top of your holiday wish list. We’ve rounded up the four best beaches in Tenerife, the Canaries’ most popular island, to help you decide whether it’s the right destination for you.

1. Playa del Duque Beach, Costa Adeje

You’ll find Playa del Duque Beach on Tenerife’s southern coast, in Costa Adeje. The beach, like the resort, is one of the more up-market spots on the island. It’s surrounded by luxury hotels, stylish eateries, and shops selling big-name brands. Even better, this stretch of coastline has Blue Flag status, so you can expect this sandy beach to be clean and well-maintained. There are plenty of sunloungers available to rent, and you’re just a stone’s throw away from Siam Park, Tenerife’s famous Thai-themed waterpark. So, it’s easy to visit both places into one day.

2. Las Teresitas Beach, Santa Cruz de Tenerife 

You’ll find Las Teresitas tucked away from Tenerife’s most-visited spots, up in the island’s north-west corner. The beach is along the coast from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a buzzing city that has its own football stadium. Las Teresitas beach is a few miles away in San Andrés, which was once a small fishing village. The sand was shipped over the from Sahara Desert, making it one of the few golden-sand beaches on the island. When you need a break from building sandcastles, you can get involved with activities like yoga and volleyball, before refuelling at the beach bar.

3. Las Vistas Beach, Los Cristianos

Las Vistas Beach comes up trumps for location, as it’s easily accessible from two of the island’s biggest resorts – Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. It’s packed with facilities too, including a restaurant-lined promenade. Its location really lends itself to those heading to Tenerife for the island’s party scene, as it’s a great beach for recovering on after a big night out. Or, if you’re feeling more energetic, you can hop on a boat trip in Los Cristianos to spot dolphins and whales away from the coast. There’s also a line-up of watersports to choose from.

4. Los Gigantes Beach, Los Gigantes 

Los Gigantes Beach is tucked under the shadow of Acantilados de Los Gigantes – or The Cliffs of the Giants. These 500-metre high cliffs overlook another dark-sand number, whose calm waters are great for little ones to paddle in. The beach’s small size makes it handy for keeping an eye on kids, too. It’s another good spot for whale-watching tours, and well placed for trips to Mount Teide, the world’s third-largest volcano. You can ride the cable car to the top to enjoy the postcard-worthy vistas.
